James Beard Award Winners: 1991-1995

In the years 1991 to 1995, 105 chefs were either nominated for or won the James Beard Award for Best Chef. Of these chefs, Roberto Donna and Sanford D'Amato were each nominated or won for all five years. Christopher Schlesinger, Elizabeth Terry, Frank Brigtsen, Gordon Hamersley, Janos Wilder, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Kaspar Donier, Robert Kinkead, and Tom Douglas were nominated or won the best chef award four out of the five years. I've added these chefs and the rest of my findings to the attached spreadsheet.

Using the search parameters given James Beard search tool, I was able to compile a list of 105 chefs fitting the criteria. After adding the chefs to the spreadsheet for each year, I went back through and removed the duplicate entries, adding the coresponding years to the original entry for each chef.

The spreadsheet has been updated with 105 chefs as well as the accompanying nomination or winning years, ranging from 1991 to 1995. The spreadsheet can be accessed here.

James Beard Award Winners: 2001-2005

An additional 65 unique chefs who either won or were nominated for the James Beard Best Chef Award between 2001 and 2005 were entered onto the attached spreadsheet. Thirty-five of these chefs won or were nominated in multiple years during this time frame. Chefs Bruce Auden, Todd Gray, and Michael Kornick were the only three chefs to win or be nominated all five years from 2001 to 2005.

As requested, the James Beard Winners website was the only source used to complete this request. As a result, I did not include the source in column F, assuming this space is meant for future requests. Using the search parameters given for the James Beard search tool, I found the following data for each of the five years I was assigned:

In 2001, there were 27 repeat winners or nominees compared to 14 new winners or nominees.

In 2002, there were 30 repeat winners or nominees compared to 11 new winners or nominees.

In 2003, there were 29 repeat winners or nominees compared to 11 new winners or nominees.

In 2004, there were 30 repeat winners or nominees compared to 10 new winners or nominees.

In 2005, there were 22 repeat winners or nominees compared to 19 new winners or nominees.

I ensured there were no duplicates added to the list, instead adding the year to existing winners or nominees. The chefs previously listed have been updated to reflect the same time frame. The spreadsheet can be accessed here.

James Beard Award Winners: 2011-2015

For this report, I have focused on adding additional chefs to the attached spreadsheet, focusing on nominees and winners of Best Chef from 2011 through 2015. For chefs who had already been nominated or won during a previous year, I added the appropriate year to Column B of the attached spreadsheet; for those winning for the first time, I added their name to Column A, and the year during which they were nominated or awarded to Column B.

Per your request, I utilized the attached search tool to identify a list of nominees and winners for each of the following years: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. For each, I narrowed the results to include both nominees and winners for the Best Chef category. I have excluded restaurants from the spreadsheet.

For this request, 96 names have been added to the attached spreadsheet, for a total of 410 nominees and winners between 1992 and 2015. Between 2011 and 2015, 307 chefs were either nominated or awarded for Best Chef, many more than once.

SUMMARY
To summarize, the names of chefs who were either nominated or who won Best Chef from 2011 through 2015 have been added to the attached spreadsheet. Chef names have been added to Column A, while the year(s) they were awarded is/are listed in Column B.

Per your request, the only source I used was the James Beard search tool to identify a list of nominees and winners for 2016 and 2017. To filter results for these years, I narrowed my search parameters to include both nominees and winners for the Best Chef category. Best Restaurants have been excluded from the spreadsheet.

For this request, 35 new chefs were added to the attached spreadsheet, for a total of 445 nominees and winners between 1992 and 2017.
