Nine out of ten law firms analyzed in this request view prospect hires based on where they graduated. Many hires come from New York University and Columbia University. Additionally, many of these law firms have diversity programs and fellowships that recent graduates can join. Participating in these programs usually leads to a job in the near future. CRAVATH, SWAINE & MOORE LLP
This firm is considered number one on Vault Law's list of prestigious firms for the year 2018. In addition to hiring from top law schools, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP hiring "talented students from a wide array of law schools across the U.S. and Canada." During 2016, they have interviewed and recruited in universities like Columbia, Georgetown, NYU, Stanford, Michigan, Chicago, North Carolina, Duke, Harvard, and Yale. Out of hundreds of recently admitted associates and clerks, around 40% come from Columbia or New York University.
WACHTELL, LIPTON, ROSEN & KATZ
The second most prestigious law firm also does university recruitment. Most of their associates have participated in the law firm's summer program at some point. Wachtell Lipton recruits from the law schools in Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, NYU, Yale, Stanford, and Chicago. Most of their attorneys come from Columbia University and then from NYU. We have reached this conclusion by analyzing the numbers of lawyers from each university and by looking for information about recruitment and job fairs. Some law firms like Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz offer things like a summer program which a lot of their associates have attended prior to being hired.
