Intel Unite

Intel Unite was released along with other products and solutions in June 2015 at the 35th edition of Computex in Taipei, Taiwan. The latest version, Intel Unite 3.3.0, was released on March 29, 2018. There are two Intel executives who have been identified to champion the product. They are Kirk Skaugen, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Client Computing Group and Tom Garrison, Vice President in the Client Computing Group and General Manager of the Business Client Platforms Division.

Hardware manufacturers on which Intel Unite is certified include Lenovo, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, ViewSonic, Apple, Toshiba, Acer, and Logitech. Three Intel Unite’s competitors are Webex, Skype, and GoToMeeting.

Brief history of Intel Unite

Intel Unite is a software solution for conference meetings and collaboration. It works with Intel Core vPro processor-based mini PC and is implemented using wireless technology. The software needs to be installed on all client devices. All participants can view and edit shared content whether they are on-site or off-site.

Intel Unite was unveiled along with other products and solutions in June 2015 at the 35th edition of Computex in Taipei, Taiwan.
In February 2017, Computerworld reported that Intel Unite was updated to make it easier to moderate meetings. The update also includes better security features to prevent unauthorized people from joining meetings.
At the 2018 Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) exhibition, Intel noted that Intel Unite’s new features include changing static displays to multi-purpose settings across all spaces.
Intel Unite has undergone several revisions. The current version is 3.3.0, released on March 29, 2018. The latest updates include “Chrome and Linux support for Present Physical Extended Display”, and “Chrome and Linux support for Present Applications”.

Intel executives championing the product include Kirk Skaugen, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Client Computing Group at Intel Corporation, who gave the Keynote Presentation at Computex 2015, where the solution was publicly announced in June 2015. Similarly, Tom Garrison, Vice President in the Client Computing Group and General Manager of the Business Client Platforms Division at Intel Corporation, published a blog post relaying the same message.

Hardware manufacturers on which Intel Unite is certified

TechRadar reported that at the official introduction of Intel Unite in June 2015, five hardware manufacturers confirmed that they have certified Intel Unite. The five manufacturers are Lenovo, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu and HP. Other manufacturers that certified Intel Unite include ViewSonic, Apple, Toshiba, Acer, and Logitech.

Intel Unite's competitors

Computerworld identified Webex, Skype, and GoToMeeting as three Intel Unite’s competitors in meetings and collaboration software.

GoToMeeting
GoToMeeting video conferencing enables real-time communication by users regardless of distance. It offers three pricing plans; Starter for $19 per month, Pro for $29 per month, and Plus for $49 per month; all billed annually on a per-user basis.

Webex
Webex video conferencing can be configured as “full screen, multiple feeds, or side-by-side with screen sharing viewing modes”. It has three pricing plans; Premium 8 for $19 per month, Premium 25 for $39 per month, and Premium 100 for $49 per month; all billed annually on a per-user basis.

Skype
Skype uses text, voice and video to enable people to easily share experiences with family, friends, and colleagues. There are three Skype plans; Skype which is free; Skype Meetings which is also free, offering professional controls and is available only in the US; and Skype for Business which offers enterprise-grade security and employee accounts management costing $2 per month, per user.
