I'd like a competitive landscape analysis for RangeMe (https://www.rangeme.com/).
Hello! Thank you for your request for a competitive landscape analysis for RangeMe. Online, custom marketplaces present new, opportunities for providing efficient, focused buying experiences for retailers. The results of my research can be found on the attached spreadsheet, along with a recap of my methodology (below).
METHODOLOGY
I reviewed the website for RangeMe to gain an understanding of their target market and how the platform works. The company launched in Australia in 2014, and expanded to the U.S. in late 2015. This young company which is privately held resulted in little publicly available information on revenues and competitors.
I followed up with business tools such as Hoovers, Owler and Crunchbase to determine other companies operating in the online marketplace or catalogue space, including your suggestion of Hubba.com. In addition to Hubba, I've included Fromozz.com, BlinkIt.co and Bulu Marketplace (an outgrowth of subscription service Bulu Box) as part of the competitive analysis because I felt that their offerings/services most strongly mirrored RangeMe.
SUMMARY
The B2B buying process has changed dramatically in recent years and now typically begins with online research rather than personal contact with a potential supplier. A 2015 presentation by Cascade Insights at the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) National Conference in Atlanta highlights several interesting trends in the buyer's path to purchase:
* By 2020, a projected 85% of business customers will likely handle all of their business transactions without a "human to human" connection.
These statistics illustrate the ripe environment available for online B2B marketplaces such as RangeMe. These marketplaces are still quite new (less than 5 years since launch), privately held and have small staffs (under 50 employees). As a result, there is only a limited amount of publicly available data, and employees are either technical in nature or experts in consumer goods' sales and marketing.
Online marketplaces have emerged as a type of "social network" for buyers and suppliers. Product information, images and customer feedback is shared by buyers and suppliers similar to the ways news and information is shared on popular social media channels. These interactions provide a quick, efficient communication method for all participants in the network.
CONCLUSION
To wrap up, a competitive landscape of RangeMe plus four competitors - Hubba.com, Fromozz, BlinkIt.co, and Bulu Marketplace - has been provided on the attached spreadsheet. The industry is still emerging, and additional competitors are likely to enter this space as buyers demand more content-driven, purchase friendly processes.
