Please let me know if you have questions.

Hello! Thank you for your question about 20 - 30 model start ups that utilize a sharing economy.

The short answer is that I have sourced 20 sharing economy companies that are positively engaging in their local communities and innovating the way that they are filling a need. I selected companies that are doing things that are directly improving the communities that they are operating in.

METHODOLOGY

My first step in researching your request was making sure that I had a deep understanding of the term "sharing economy", so that I could find the companies that you were looking for.

I found a good definition of what constitutes a sharing economy from an essay by Juliet Shore called "Debating the Sharing Economy" in which she defines it as recirculation of goods, increased utilization of durable assets, exchange of services, and sharing of productive assets. She also emphasizes that these definitions are still fluid and not yet pinned down completely, but a focus on peer to peer sharing is important if not specifically vital to the definition. She does include business to peer applications as a part of the share economy due to the sharing of durable goods.

With a solid foundation of a definition, I began searching for sharing economy startups that focused on local community integration and improvement. I focused on companies that created their sites to either address a problem in the local community or site that created their company to improve their local community either economically or otherwise.
