Hi. I am looking for A list of exporters of CHIVES that export into the US. First priority would be ARGENTINA, after that MEXICO, ECUADOR. Another item that I am looking for is FRESH LYCHEE from AUSTRALIA. The list needs to include the following data: 1. Name of the company 2. Physical address 3. Email address 4. Phone numbers (cell phone and regular phone) – that actually connected Very important: I am looking ONLY for growers/ shippers/exporters of these items, NOT importers or retail stores or distributers in the US who sells it. Please don’t refer me to any general produce brokers web sites (like Alibaba etc.) - only direct growers or shipper contact details please
Hello! Thanks for your question about companies exporting chives from Argentina, Mexico, and Ecuador into the United States, as well as lychee exporters from Australia. The short version is that after searching extensively through several import/export sites, the USDA, agricultural industry sites, and trusted media sources, I’ve determined that the information you requested is not publicly available because we do not import significant amounts of chives from those countries and/or the information about how many chives we do import and which companies are involved is kept as proprietary information. However, I was able to learn that Australia only began exporting lychees to the US in March of this year, and which company is involved. Below you will find a deep dive of my research and methodology.
METHODOLOGY
We searched through several import/export sites, the USDA, agricultural industry sites, and trusted media sources to find out which companies were involved in exporting chives from Argentina, Mexico, and Ecuador to the US. When that failed to provide results, we expanded our search to find out if we indeed import chives from those countries.
Finding an Australian lychee exporter was made easier by the fact that lychee commerce between the US and Australia only opened up this year, and therefore the entities involved were very much in the news.
CHIVES
Neither Seair Exim Solutions nor the IMEX database had any record of companies in Argentina, Mexico, or Ecuador specifically noted for exporting chives to the US. The IMEXDB has about 300 listings for agricultural exporting companies in Mexico, but only three for Argentina and one for Ecuador. All of these emphasize their fruit products over their vegetable or herb products.
Our next stop was TradeMap and the USDA in order to find out if chives are a significant import from any of those countries. Unfortunately, both sources grouped chives together with onions, garlic, leeks, and other alliaceous vegetables, so we could not single out chives. However, TradeMap shows that out of the $697 million in alliaceous vegetables imported into the US in 2016, only $13 million came from Argentina and $34,000 came from Ecuador, while over half ($365 million) came from Mexico. However, another source notes, "Outside the US, food distributors import fresh chives from Mexico," indicating that the US does not import many chives from that country.
We did find a site that may contain the information, Panjiva. Unfortunately, Panjiva requires a $150-$300/month subscription to access its data. Consequently, we are unable to provide the requested information.
LYCHEES
After a three-year battle with the US Federal government, Australia sent its first shipment of lychees to the US in March 2017. This export was made possible through the efforts of the Australian Lychee Growers Association (ALGA), but the actual exporting company is Favco. This is the only company we could find exporting lychees to the US, but since this is a newly-opened market, this may change in the near future. Favco's contact information is as follows:
Email: katrinar@favcoqld.com.au
Phone: 61 7 3717 1500
Fax: 61 7 3717 1501
PO Box 31
Brisbane Markets, Qld 4106
ALGA may be able to provide additional information on upcoming lychee exporting companies. They have a contact form on their site, which also provides the following contact information:
Executive Officer: Jill Houser
phone 0417 639 927
PO Box 6120,
Mooloolah, Qld 4553
POSSIBLE FURTHER RESEARCH
Without knowing how you intend to use this research, it is difficult to suggest further areas of study. Perhaps broadening our search to companies exporting any sort of alliaceous vegetables from Mexico, or else a search for companies that export chives to countries other than the US would provide some useful contact information. Having said that, we judge that a complete list would be proprietary information that would need to be purchased from a company like Panjiva.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, after searching extensively through several import/export sites, the USDA, agricultural industry sites, and trusted media sources, a direct answer to your question is not publicly available because we do not import significant amounts of chives from those countries and/or the information about how many chives we do import and which companies are involved is kept as proprietary information. However, I learned that I was able to learn that Australia only began exporting lychees to the US in March of this year, and the contact information of the company involved. If you’d like to continue research on any of the other topics I’ve outlined above, just let us know!
