Market Size - Brazillian Blowouts, Blowouts, and Smoothing Treatments

The estimated market size of Brazilian blowouts, blowouts, and smoothing treatments is $2.961 billion.

METHODOLOGY

We began by searching for precompiled data on the market size for salon-based Brazilian blowouts, blowouts, and other smoothing treatments. We found a report by IBIS World stating that Brazilian blowouts and other keratin smoothing treatments make up approximately 4.7% of the salon hair care industry.
We also found a report by Forbes that indicated that the hair smoothing industry in the US makes about 6% of the $63 billion hair care industry which equates it to $3.78 billion. Using this data, we assumed that the 6% included both salon based and DIY at home treatments. So we tried to find out the dollar amount for the salon smoothing treatment industry. Since the entire hair care industry is valued at $63 billion, we found 4.7% of the same.

4.7% x $63 billion= $2.961 billion

This is supported by our prior calculations for the total hair smoothing industry in the US equating to 3.78 billion. We can therefore calculate the DIY hair smoothing market size to be $819 million ($3.78billion - $2.961 billion = $819 million)

GROWTH RATE AND DEMOGRAPHICS

As we were unable to find the growth of the smoothing industry and Millennial demographics readily, we expanded the scope and used the growth rate of the professional hair care industry as proxies. This report indicates that the hair care industry is projected to grow at a rate of 2.1% through to 2022. It also reports that clients between the ages of 25 — 34% make about 16.5% of the market while those under 25 make 8.1%.
