Green House Sites
In reference to our findings, the potential sites that can be used for agriculture in the north-eastern part of Georgia, USA are mostly available for sale over leasing. These properties have a sale price that ranges between $22,900 and $26,500. Our research methodology and findings follow below.
METHODOLOGY
We started research by first searching for potential sites that could be used to set up a greenhouse in the north-eastern part of Georgia including areas like Helen, Cleveland, Blairsville, Sautee Nacoochee, Clarkesville, Clayton, Dahlonega, Gainesville, Hiawassee, Young Harris, and Toccoa. We focused our search on real estate databases that included Zillow, Trulia, and LoopNet. From the target databases, only Zillow seemed to contain relevant information that could be used to address the research question. The property listings on Zillow were mainly focused on land sale as opposed to leasing and the data that was available for listings that were in the price range stipulated by the research criteria was very limited. Consequently, we decided to provide the listings that we found through this strategy. However, for most of these listings, data on land type was not clearly provided and none of the targeted databases contained any listings that were free from trees as required by the research criteria.
As only potential sites that were permitted for use in agriculture were to be considered, we only considered the lands/lots that were specifically described as agricultural or separately mentioned as agricultural land in the "property overview by the owner" section on Zillow.
Next, we expanded our focus to include properties that were in a price range that was more than the stipulated $25,000 in the hope that we could identify flat land that was clear of trees. In this strategy, we searched through the previously mentioned real estate databases i.e. Zillow, Trulia, and LoopNet, but we were still unable to find any properties that were completely free of trees. In addition, the properties that we looked at did not directly state whether they were completely flat as some stated that they were level/rolled. In the end, this strategy did not result in any information on whether the properties were completely free of tree and flat as required by the research criteria.
At this point, we realized that properties with no trees which met the specifics of the research criteria were not curated by any of the real estate databases that we focused on. We attributed this to the likelihood that north-eastern Georgia is a hilly area that has a significant amount of trees. We then tried to search for areas of north-eastern Georgia that contained a lower quantity of trees in the hope that this would lead to land/lots that were free of trees and flat. We focused our search for such areas on resources that included Explore Georgia and Plant Maps. However, we were unable to identify any areas in north-eastern Georgia that were free from trees and this prevented us from looking for properties that met this criteria in the target location.
