I would like the following information in CSV format for top 50 cities and neighboring suburbs (ranked by population) in US: Median Household Income per Zip, Density per Zip, Buildings and # of units per building per Zip, Public Transportation Index per City
Hi! Thanks for your request for statistics for the top 50 cities in the U.S. In short, as Wonder does not have a way to attach CSV files to our responses, I have included the information requested in the attached spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rabHky6ZL0wastqHiF9AjCRtONJz6Mg0x-EX4zs7qIY/edit#gid=0
To save the data into CSV format use the File->Download As->CSV command from the menu bar. Below, you will find an overview of my methodology and findings.
METHODOLOGY
To answer your query, we searched through numerous resources provided by the Census Bureau, Department of Numbers, Zip Atlas, and other credible sources to obtain the figures you requested. For the density per zip, please note that it was not possible to provide this information for every single zip code in all 50 cities, as there are literally hundreds. The spreadsheet includes the top 5 zip codes for each city, according to density; however, a complete list of population density for every zip code in the United States can be found here. Although a list of the number of buildings per zip code was not available, we were able to locate figures for the number of occupied units in each of the top 50 cities, and this information has been included in the spreadsheet.
POPULATION
To determine the top 50 cities ranked by population, I searched the United States Census Bureau site using its Fact Finder tool which contains census data from 2016.
MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME PER ZIP
DENSITY PER ZIP
Density per zip could also be found on the StatisticalAtlas website. This could be found by selecting the city within the US and then searching for the term 'density' on the page. I have done this for the top 5 zip codes of each of the cities.
BUILDINGS AND NUMBER OF UNITS PER BUILDING PER ZIP
The number of buildings and units per building is not available online on a per zip basis, however, I was able to find the number of occupied housing units per city on the NMHC website.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION INDEX
The public transportation index is not publicly available in a format separated out by city. According to the United States Department of Transportation, the national transportation services index as of June 2017, was 126.5 (126.2 for freight and 126.8 for passengers).
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, we have included the information you requested in the attached spreadsheet found with this link:
