FedEx Freight, Old Dominion Freight Line, XPO Logistics, YRC Freight provide less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping services in North America, while Old Dominion Freight Line also provides LTL services in Europe, South America, Central America, Caribbean, and the Far East through an alliance with Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC. They offer a variety of solutions that help their clients in supply chain management and optimization.

FedEx Freight

  • FedEx Freight is an LTL shipping company that provides services in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was created in 2001 after FedEx Corporation acquired American Freightways (AF). FedEx Corporation created FedEx Freight by combining Viking Freight (a courier service founded in 1966) and AF (a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier founded in 1982).

Top US Couriers; General Overview

The U.S. Postal Service is a self-funded federal agency with annual revenue of approximately $71 billion. FedEx provides services for ecommerce, transportation, and business, through which it generates $70 billion in annual revenue. UPS has three business segments, which are Supply Chain and Freight, International Package, and U.S. Domestic Package, through which it generates $74 billion in annual revenue.

U.S. Postal Service

  • The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is an "independent federal agency" that is self-funded through its sale of services, products, and postage.
  • USPS "is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation."
  • There are three key business lines that comprise USPS's operations: Packages, Marketing Mail, and First-Class Mail. In 2018, the Packages business line generated $21 billion in revenue, Marketing Mail generated $16.5 billion in revenue, and First-Class Mail generated revenue totaling $25 billion.
  • USPS's number of retail locations exceeds 31,600 nationwide.
  • Over 630,000 employees work for USPS, making it "the second largest civilian employer in the United States."
