What are the five most successful companies in the HR Technology (Organizational Design / People Analytics) space?
Hello! Thanks for asking Wonder about the five most successful companies in the HR Technology (Organizational Design / People Analytics) space. The short version of the answer is that BambooHR, Zoho People and Workday are the best and most successful companies in HR technology (especially with regards to people analytics), while Organimi and OrgPlus are the best two companies with regards to top HR software on organizational design—making up a total of five HR technology options to answer your two-sided question. Notably, in most cases, the software names double as the names of the companies that created the software; that’s the reason I have used them interchangeably in this research. Kindly find a deep dive of my findings detailed below.
METHODOLOGY
In my research, my preliminary focus was on determining the “most successful” companies in organizational design and people analytics, and in order to accomplish that, I began by comparing the relevant companies in the space on aspects such as revenues, industry review of their products, and other related insights such as customer base and ranking of the software/companies based on studies/surveys on the products. Once I established the most successful companies, I went on to research other details such as funding, founders and pricing while also doing a competitive analysis of the companies against their top competitors in the industry. In order to ensure that the information obtained was accurate as possible, I did my research on authoritative academic databases, corporate websites, industry reports, trusted media sites and review sites, with special attention being given to the most recently published reports and articles.
BACKGROUND ON PEOPLE ANALYTICS AND ORG DESIGN
PEOPLE ANALYTICS: As far as human resource (HR) technology software is concerned, the term people analytics is usually used in the same breath as HR Analytics to mean tools that are used to make decisions about the employees or workforce. People analytics can cover a wide range of aspects, but it most commonly applies to “HR applies statistics, technology and expertise to large sets of talent data, which results in making better management and business decisions for an organization.” As will be showcased in the examples, some people analytics tools can operate as standalone tools while others can be part of an ERP suite, depending on the type of management system you are looking for.
ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN: In HR Technology, organizational design software are those tools that are used by the organization to help in streamlining human resources activities. These activities, which range from screening and hiring to performance assessment, are usually streamlined via HR tools that can ensure that managers are able to keep track of details such as performance records, time and attendance, benefits management, and payroll in the simplest of ways. When it comes to organizational design, particularly through the use of organizational charts, most business owners look for something that is simple, well-organized, flexible and easy to share. It is based on these qualities that I was able to establish and highlight the organizational design tools detailed hereafter.
MOST SUCCESFUL COMPANIES IN PEOPLE ANALYTICS
1. BAMBOOHR
This is an easy-to-use and extremely simple HR analytics software that is loved for its stress-fee ability to adapt quickly to your business needs. In a recent research conducted by Finances Online on the top HR management software solutions, BambooHR ranked first with the highest total SmartScore of 9.8/10 and a user satisfaction rating of 98%. The app also won the 2016 Expert’s Choice Award and 2016 Best HR Management Software Award.
BambooHR, which was founded in 2008 by Ben Peterson and Ryan Sanders, is most popular among small and mid-sized businesses that are looking to transition from spreadsheets to a Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and consolidate all employee information in a single place for easy viewing.
According to the company website, BambooHR has 60-plus major customers, including Magnolia, Asana, Jaguars, Shopify and Reddit, among any others. You get a free 7-day trial when you sign up for BambooHR. For pricing on the app, you need to fill in a form under their pricing section to get a quotation of the product’s price. In terms of revenue, Owler reports BambooHR’s annual revenue at $15M, with the company’s funding undisclosed, according to Crunchbase.
2. ZOHO PEOPLE
In the research by Finances Online, Zoho People got the highest SmartScore of 9.6/10 and an impressive user satisfaction rating of 99%.
If you are looking for a company with a product that can be easily implemented without many changes to your system, Zoho People is definitely the way to go. This is because it is simple, flexible and easily-customizable while allowing you to cover a wide range of employee management operations, including work leaves and time/attendance.
Like BambooHR, Zoho People offers a free trial that allows you to test the app’s features. More notably, though, Zoho People comes with very reasonable pricing packages (from $9 start-up to $199 per month) that can cater to the needs of both small and large companies. It is no wonder the company has a large clientele base with remarkable annual revenue of $107M, according to Owler.
As per the company website, Zoho People was founded in 1996 by a conglomerate of individuals and groups, including Tabtree IT Consulting & Services LLP, Visual Bi, Time Legend Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd., and Oaksure Insurance, among others. Zoho People’s funding was reported at $6.2M in 2016.

MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES IN ORG DESIGN
1. ORGANIMI
Organimi is an organizational chart tool that is widely ranked as the best organizational design tool in HR, thanks to the fact that it is highly affordable and easy to use, especially with regards to good visualization of data. Through this app, you can upload employee details from a spreadsheet, and then drag and drop on the system for easy design such as building a chart. On top of having a user-friendly interface, Organimi allows for a ton of operations, including saving the resulting design as PDF, giving a public link to be shared online or extracting a HTML code to be posted on a blog or website.
As a challenge, though, Organimi offers a one-time monthly use plan for $45 with no renewals, which means you have to buy an annual subscription if you want to use it regularly. Still, with a pricing that ranges from $49/45 days to $99/year, it’s hard to find a better product at such a reasonable price in the market. Plus, Organimi is currently free for companies with up to 50 people with limited features, on the condition that you sign up for a free account.
Organimi was co-founded by Eric Apps and Brett Shellhammer, and according to Owler, the company’s annual revenue is $436.9K. No funding amount is listed for Organimi.
2. ORGPLUS
OrgPlus, sometimes known as OrgPlus RealTime, is formal web-based organizational design program. Its popularity stems from the variety of customizable themes it offers to its users. When you import data into OrgPlus (for example a spreadsheet), this app automatically generates a chart and other related elements, making your work extremely easy. Like Organimi, OrgPlus comes with a lot of great visualization tools, which allows you to play around with layouts and stuff like that for simple organization and strategic planning of insights.
OrgPlus belongs to the parent company Insperity, a trusted advisor to America’s best businesses for more than 28 years in areas such as human resource management and the provision of business design solutions. Insperity was founded in 1986 and operates in 57 offices throughout the United States, reporting annual revenue of $2.3B in 2013. With specific focus on the OrgPlus product, Owler reports current annual revenue of 13.8M. Like Organimi, no funding amount is listed for OrgPlus.
