Find how many video conferencing cameras and systems were shipped last year by vendor?

Hello! Thank you for your request on how many videoconferencing cameras and systems were shipped last year by vendor. Unfortunately, despite extensive searching of corporate, regulatory and industry websites as well as trusted media sites, I was unable to find the specific information you require. In completing the research I found that the majority of information is kept behind paywalls and isn’t accessible on line. I was, however, able to find the top companies, product lists and some information around revenue earnings, as well as information around the number of items shipped.
Below you will find a deep dive of my findings:

METHODOLOGY

I searched extensively to try to address the questions that you have asked. Whilst I was able source some information, I couldn’t find all of it. The information I have found however should be able to give you a reasonable overview of the market space.

FINDINGS

The International Data Corporation (IDC) published first quarter 2016 data showing global revenue at $495,000,000. The previous quarter had been higher at $628,000,000, however, this is a relatively normal fluctuation in the first quarter of the year.
The number of units sold was 101,391.
Of the top three companies, Cisco, Polycom and Huawei, all saw revenue decreases of between 20.9%, 14.6% and 46.8% respectively. Cisco holds 45.4% of the worldwide market share, Polycom came in at second with 20.8% and Huawei was ranked third at 11.2%.
IDC’s second quarter information showed a small decline in Cisco’s overall market share, back to 44.3%, Polycom dropped to 19.7% whilst Huawei surged slightly to 14.2%. The total units shipped in this quarter ware 104,209, up 2.8% on the previous quarter.
The IDC reports breaks revenue into sub-categories:
Multi-codec equipment: $31,000,000 and individual unit shipments had increased by 23.8%.
Room-based videoconferencing: decreased to $352,500,000.
Video infrastructure equipment rose 18.5% to $82,900,000.
The third quarter report for IDC in 2016 saw revenue respond quite fluidly to market charge.
Multi-codec equipment: decreased to $24,600,000.
Room-based videoconferencing: grew to $372,600,000 an increase on previous data of 5.7%.
Video infrastructure equipment rose even further at a rate of 29.6% to $107,500,000.
There was a reversal of fortunes for Polycom who saw an increase in their net profits of 14.7%. Cisco increased by 11.6% and Huawei remained in number three place. Global revenue was $542,000,000 whilst the number of units sold increased 0.8% on the last quarter or 10.9% for the last year.
Unit sales in the following areas are forecast to be:
Group add on devices for 2017 to 2020 were 275,000, 375,000, 450,000 and 550,000 respectively.
Single codec system for 2017 to 2020 were 403,400, 417,100, 428,600 and 437,000 respectively.

Tradition VC system for conference room for 2017 to 2020 were 380,620, 393,150, 403,260 and 410,580 respectively.
To help determine the market I searched for resources on top companies for video conferencing cameras and systems, finding this article listing the major companies as Avaya, Cisco, Google, Huawei, LifeSize, Logitech, Pexip, Polycom, StarLeaf, Vidyo and ZTE Corp.

COMPANY FINDINGS

Cisco’s annual report for 2016 indicates that of the revenue generated, 5% came from video products. They revenue for the 12-month period ending July 2017 was $49,247 million. They are, without a doubt, the market leader across a broad range of “enterprise video” solutions including scalable options. Some of their notable products are:
Polycom, Inc. released financial data in 2016 for the previous year, 2015. It's listed revenue for products is $893,762 which is down from the previous year when revenue generated from product sales was $960,726. It does not list the quantity of units sold nor the specific breakdown of the types of products it sells and reports on in its financial statement. The company offers a broad range of products which are helping it to grow. They focus on innovating and challenging opportunities and use Microsoft’s Skype for Business platform. Some of their products include:
1Q16
Huawei has three revenue streams: carrier, enterprise and consumer. Its video conferencing segmentation appears to fit across at least two of those categories. Additionally, their financial statements do not indicate revenue by product breakdown. Their overall revenue was CNY$521,574 or USD$78399.17. Its main market is the Asia/Pacific area and Huawei has brought its product H265 TX-50 to the fore. It also offers solutions to small starts-ups right through to the large corporations.
ZTE Corporation manufactures communication equipment generating RMB$101,233.20 million or USD$15216.63 million in revenue. As with Huawei, ZTE Corporation is a major player in this area as one of the largest equipment providers. Products it offers include:
Cloud Conferencing Manager (CCM) 1000-MCU
StarLeaf is a disruptive start-up focusing on small and medium enterprises as opposed to corporate or large-scale enterprise organizations that require an equally large-scale video conferencing solution. Additionally, it is not limiting itself to one or a few solutions, rather it is offering a broad range of flexible options to appeal to the smaller end market space. StarLeaf is an “emerging player” and I am unable to source its share of the industry sector. It offers OpenCloud that is compatible with Microsoft Skype for Business as well as:
Pexip Infinity is a private company and as such does not list is financial reports nor am I able to find the revenue generated from product sales or the quantity of products sold.
ClearOne notes that it captured 55.8% of the 2015 the global conferencing endpoints market space; whilst being the sole company offering “full value chain” solutions to the audio and video conferencing market. Its 2016 revenue was $48,600,000 down from $57,800,000 in the previous year. They state that $5,000,000 in revenue was earned from their audio conferencing sales, which saw a substantial jump in growth rate of nearly 40%.
Logitech do not differentiate their product revenue and I am unable to determine their market share as a result. Logitech’s total net sales for 2017 was $2,221,427 up 14% from the year prior. Their video collaboration sector grew by double digits. Net sales for its video collaboration stream was $127,009 for year ending March 31, 2017. Primarily the increase was as a result of Logitech focus on high end market.
Logitech divested itself of Lifesize, Inc. in 2016. There is no publicly available information regarding their units sold nor income derived from the sale of those units. I was able to find that once they were divested from Logitech, their business focus was on SMBs. They offer cloud-native endpoints, including:
Alphabet, Inc. (Google) lists revenue generated from other streams as being $10,080,000,000 or 11.3% of its total earnings. Hardware sales are incorporated into this. I am not able to drill down any further to this figure as this subsection also includes a number of other hardware initiatives, such as mobile phones. Its total earnings for 2016 was $90,272,000,000.
At Avaya, their total product revenue for 2016 was $469,000,000 for the three months ending in September 2016. The company is prominent in the corporate or enterprise video conferencing market space since it acquired Radvision back in 2012. Avaya focuses its products and services offerings via the cloud, in order to boost connectivity for their customers and remain competitive as smaller and cheaper solutions are entering the market. It has a number of products including:
Vidyo is a privately held company and not required to publish any financial audits or reports. I am also unable to source the number of units that they shipped in 2016. Their product offerings include:

CONCLUSION

Despite searching exhaustively for you I was unable to find the level of information that you requested with the majority of it behind paywalls. However, the information that has been found should be a good starting point in giving you an overview of the current market.
