Find 5 MMORPGs with liquid Auction House Systems
Hello! Thanks for your question about video game auction houses that allow the currency to be cashed-out. I enjoyed researching this because I used Diablo 3's liquid auction house before it was shut down. The short version is that in-game auction houses no longer allow cashing-out of currency due federal and state gambling laws. Below you will find a deep dive of my findings.
METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS
I made money in Diablo 3's liquid auction houses in the early 2010s. However, the auction house was closed because it detracted from game play. Another game company, Valve, was sued in 2016 due to video game gambling laws.
I began by researching for videos game that had auction houses currently. I learned that there are in-game and third-party auction houses. Third-party auction systems seem to be working because they verify that participants are old enough to gamble. I assumed you were looking for in-game auction houses, so that's where I focused my list. However, I have included the name of one third-party site called Bazaar.TF.
The most famous and successful in-game auction house. Playing the game would earn loot which could be auctioned off. The profits could be sent to your bank account. This led to people farming the game, and the auction house was pulled in 2014.
In this game, people can buy tokens and sell them for in-game gold. Game time costs gold. Players can trade gold and game time. The player is getting something that costs real money, but does not get money directly. This is done on an auction system, with supply and demand dictating prices.
EA Sports offers an auction house, but funds cannot be cashed out. Instead, players earn MyTeam (MT) points that they use to make in-game purchases.
This is the only game that allows players to cash-out on game currency. Players can earn and sell Linden Dollars. USD $1 = L $260. The game allows players to auction off properties.
This game allows players to earn real money indirectly by winning and selling VIRTS. However, earning VIRTS is difficult and time-consuming. 1 VIRS = 1 POINT = $1
This is a third-party auction site. They are able to verify that people are of legal gambling age by requiring a credit card. This allows them to meet all state and federal gambling laws. They allow the auction of items from many popular games and game servers like Team Fortress 2, DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Steam.
CONCLUSION
To wrap it up, Diablo 3 was the most successful and famous liquid auction house thus far. However, it was shut down. It is difficult for video games to have liquid auction house due to federal regulations on gambling. Third-party sites, like Bazaar.TF, cater to adults while games like Second Life offer people a way to earn currency that can be sold. Thanks for using Wonder!
