Family Friendly African Safaris

Our research identified seven family-friendly safaris in Africa. We have included resorts and safaris in different regions and countries and tried to showcase the different experiences available in the areas. For each resort we determined that they are family-friendly based on the information on their website. The resorts are The Stanley Wing Safari, Tswalu Motse South Africa, Baines River Camp, Sun City and Madikwe luxury safari, Addo Elephant Lodge & Safari, the Jabulani Safari, and Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp.

The Stanley Wing Safari — kenya AND TANZANIA

The Stanley Wing Safari, by Micato Safaris, includes Kenya and Tanzania and is advertised as a luxury safari. The safari offers different options for accommodation. The Fairmont Norfolk has played host to Winston Churchill and Teddy Roosevelt. For a more rustic feel, travelers can choose the Ol Tukai Lodge. The Fairmont Mara Safari Club offers guests private tents, with private verandas overlooking the hippo filled Mara River.

The highlights of the safari include, horseback riding along the base of Mount Kenya, and a visit to a chimpanzee sanctuary. Travelers can expect to see a variety of animals, including elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebras. The safari is also a way to give back, as for every safari sold, the owners send an African child to school.

Tswalu Motse South Africa — SOUTH AFRICA

The Tswalu Motse Lodge is located in South Africa on the Tswalu Game Reserve. This all-ages lodge offers family suites, with two bedrooms, perfect for traveling with teenagers who require their own space. The stunning setting has a swimming pool and offers an intimate safari experience.

Safaris can be enjoyed via vehicle, walking or a river boat. The river boat puts animals more at ease than traditional safaris, allowing for a different viewing experience. River canoe trips are also available for families with children over the age of 12. Animals that can be seen on the safari are elephants, warthogs and hippos.

Sun City and Madikwe Luxury Safari — SUN CITY AND MADIKWE

The Sun City and Madikwe Luxury Safari provides an activity filled start to the trip, followed by a traditional safari. The tour begins in Sun City at the Cascades Hotel. Set in a tropical paradise, the hotel is set on a golf course and includes lots of entertainment options. On day three, the tour moves to the Madikwe Dithaba Lodge, set on 60,000 hectares. The safari includes a vehicle safari to see lions, wild dogs, and other wildlife. When not on safari, the lodge offers activities for all ages, including games, and entertainment.
