Introduction

This research brief provides the estimated number of US food delivery couriers by DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Postmates. We have provided the total couriers based on the most available estimates. Postmates was acquired by Uber in 2020; hence its most recent courier data is from 2020, as Uber has yet to provide the data since acquiring the company. Grubhub is part of Just Eat Takeaway.com, operating across the US. DoorDash increased the number of couriers from around one million in 2020 to over 2 million in 2021.

Research Strategy

We leveraged the most reputable publicly available information in the public domain to estimate the number of food delivery couriers engaged by DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Postmates. We utilized each company's press releases, annual and quarterly reports, and websites as available. We also leveraged reliable news outlets such as the Chicago Tribune. However, we could not find the number of couriers engaged by the companies as of 2023. Therefore, we used the most recent estimates available. As such, we have used sources older than 24 months. Due to the lack of data current data, it should be noted that the actual number of couriers is likely to be higher than the estimate provided.
To determine the total number of delivery drivers engaged by the four companies, we added the data for the most recent years available.
