Introduction
- In this research, we have provided data on the number of public and private elementary schools and elementary school teachers in the U.S. We also estimated the number of STEM specialty elementary schools using the information provided by the Magnet School of America and the National Institute For Education Statistics. Information on the number of teachers in Title 1 and STEM elementary school teachers could not provide as the information was not available in the public domain.

Helpful Findings
- According to Magnet School of America, 30% of magnet schools are focused on STEM.
- Data from the NCES shows that 2,356 magnet schools were public elementary schools in the 2018-2019 academic year which means that 709 schools (30% of 2,356) are STEM public elementary schools in the U.S.
- In the 2020-2021 school year, the estimated number of elementary Title 1 schools in the U.S. was 1,359 schools compared to 817 elementary Title 1 schools in 2017-2018 school year.
Research Strategy
Information on the number of teachers in Title 1 and STEM elementary schools could not be provided in this research as it was not readily available in the public domain. Although data on the number of Title 1 schools can be found here and here, the data includes both secondary and elementary schools.
Using data from the CDE, we triangulated the number of Title 1 elementary schools by providing a headcount of elementary schools profiled in the source. It should be noted that the information might not be an exhaustive list of all Title 1 elementary schools in the U.S.
For elementary STEM schools, due to the unavailability of data on the exact number of schools. We leveraged data from the Magnet School of America and the NCES to triangulate the number of public elementary STEM schools. The reasoning behind the inclusion is because STEM schools are also a type of magnet schools. Our triangulated data does not include private schools because the information was not available in the public domain.
For the number of teachers in STEM and Title 1 elementary schools. The information was not readily available in the public domain. We attempted to triangulate the data by finding the estimated percentage of elementary teachers in STEM and Title 1 schools. Unfortunately, the information was not available. We combed for the latest data from sources such as the National Institute For Education Statistics, Bureau Of Labor And Statistics, Common Core Of Data, California Department of Education (CDE), United States Department of Education, Statista, among others.
