With Europe comprising 51 countries, an exhaustive search for the largest exhibit design firms in each country would be outside the scope of a Wonder request. Since one of the requested parameters for identifying the companies was to consider those that have received awards or similar recognition, I determined the best way to find the largest firms meeting the request criteria would be to look for European design competitions. The annual European Design Awards looks at design companies across Europe and has a category specifically for exhibition design. Therefore, I used this source as my starting point to identify the top exhibit design firms across Europe. I then visited the websites for each of the award-winning exhibit design companies to find information on their project counts to determine which were the largest.
Atelier Bruckner, Germany
Among the companies analyzed, Atelier Bruckner is by far the largest European exhibition design firm with 108 employees, 96 completed exhibits, and more than 200 awards.
The other nine companies were much smaller than Atelier Bruckner, but they were the largest in terms of completed exhibitions. They include:
Kossman Dejong, Netherlands
Gruppe Gut, Italy
DeVrijer VanDongen, Netherlands
Trapped in Suburbia, Netherlands
Gold & Wirtschaftswunde, Germany
In conclusion, Atelier Bruckner, Kossman Dejong, Gruppe Gut, DeVrijer VanDongen, Ramservice, Liquid, Folder, Trapped in Suburbia, Velvet, and Gold & Wirtschaftswunde are among the largest European exhibition design firms in terms of exhibitions completed and awards received. The company details can be found in this spreadsheet.
