Employee Count for the Divisions and Subsidiaries of Time Warner: Part 1
Based on our research, HBO has just over 2,000 employees, Turner Broadcasting System has 7,000 employees, Warner Bros. Entertainment has between 5,000 and 15,000 employees, Sports Illustrated has just over 500 employees, CNN has 3,000 employees, Time Warner Interactive has as many as 200 employees, and New Line Cinema has 550 employees.
Background
The approximate number of employees under Time Warner umbrella has some unique variables due to the nature of some of its organizations, which accounts for unusual estimates of the number of employees, even by a companies own estimate. The most significant of these variables is the number of employees in the television/motion picture companies whose employee numbers can vary daily based on production schedules. You will find an explanation below.
Methodology
In order to research an estimated number of employees for the Time Warner Divisions/Subsidiaries: HBO, Turner Broadcasting System Inc, Warner Bros Entertainment, Sports Illustrated, CNN, Time Warner Interactive and New Line Cinema, I did a deep dive on division and subsidiary websites, as well as on news articles containing company employee information. If information on the number of employees was not available from those sources, I searched LinkedIn and Owler to get an approximate employee count.
Notes
HBO- Employee registration on LinkedIn is voluntary. As a result, current employees may not be registered, or some employees may still be listed as working at HBO but have left and not updated their information. Given the disparity between the LinkedIn employee numbers and those from more verifiable sources, the LinkedIn data has not been included in the employee count estimation.
Warner Bros Entertainment -This company states their number of employees is a variable based on production levels for both movies and television.
Sports Illustrated-If it is assumed the sports coverage has variables that includes seasonal sports, and special sporting events such as the Olympics, the number of employees as listed in LinkedIn would be expected to fluctuate in a manner similar to that of its sister company, Warner Bros Entertainment.
Conclusion
It is reasonable to conclude that Turner Broadcasting System has the largest number of permanent employees in Divisions and Subsidiaries of Time Warner. It should be noted the number of employees in television and movie companies will surge at any given time due to casting and production schedules. The details of our research can be found on the attached spreadsheet.
