Introduction
This research provides a list of seven emergency management and/or emergency notification tools and software solutions that are used in K-12 schools in the United States. Additional details, including the company names, website links, number of customers, and availability of an API, have been provided for each tool and software in the attached spreadsheet. The seven emergency management and/or emergency notifications tools and software solutions presented in this research are Raptor Emergency Management, CatapultEMS, K-12 School Safety, K-12 Safety Solutions, Intrado Safety Shield, InformaCast School Notification System, and K-12 Mass Notification Solution.
Information surrounding the number of schools/school districts that the companies have as customers is unavailable for many tools, such as K-12 School Safety, InformaCast School Notification System, and K-12 Mass Notification Solution. A summary of the findings has been presented below, along with an outline of the research strategy.
Summary of the Findings
- Raptor Emergency Management is an emergency management solution used by more than 35,000 K-12 schools in the United States. Raptor Emergency Management has an open API that "enables native, bi-directional integration with a school’s digital security systems." An image with the preview of the solution in different devices has been presented below.
- CatapultEMS is an emergency management solution used by over 750 K-12 school sites in the United States. The platform has an API that can be used to access information from the Aeries student information system.
- K-12 School Safety is an emergency management software platform provided by Everbridge. While the K-12 School Safety software platform does not have an API, Everbridge has a RESTful API for another product called Everbridge IT Alerting.
- K-12 Safety Solutions from Rave Mobile Safety is another emergency management software solution for K-12 schools. It has around 8,000 customers worldwide. The solution does not have an API.
- Intrado Safety Shield from School Messenger is an emergency management software solution for K-12 schools that is used by around 63,000 K-12 schools across North America. An image with the preview of the solution in different devices has been presented below.
- InformaCast School Notification System from Singlewire Software is an emergency notification system for K-12 schools that has an API called InformaCast API. Similarly, K-12 Mass Notification Solution from BrightArrow is another emergency notification system for K-12 schools that has an API.

Research Strategy
For this research on seven emergency management and/or emergency notification tools and software solutions that are used in K-12 schools in the United States, we leveraged the most reputable sources of information that were available in the public domain, including the tools' official websites, brochures, documentation pages, and case studies, among other sources. We found that most emergency management tools and software also include emergency notification features. Therefore, we prioritized the tools that provide both emergency management and emergency notification features. We also included two emergency notification tools (InformaCast School Notification System and K-12 Mass Notification Solution) in this research. All the companies included in this research operate in the United States.
Data surrounding the number of K-12 schools/districts that the companies have as customers is unavailable for most tools (except for Raptor Emergency Management). Even after searching across the official websites, brochures, documentation pages, case studies, web articles, financial reports, and social media pages, among other sources, we were unable to find the required data for most tools. We also looked for older data outside Wonder's two-year standard time frame. Using this approach, we were able to find an estimated number (more than 750 school sites) for CatapultEMS from an article dating back to March 2020. Upon further research, we also found the number of worldwide customers for K-12 Safety Solutions and the number of K-12 schools that use Intrado Safety Shield across North America. Due to the unavailability of the required data, we have included the available helpful information in the research. For some tools (K-12 School Safety, K-12 Safety Solutions, and Intrado Safety Shield), we did not find any evidence surrounding the availability of an API even after searching across all the aforementioned sources. Therefore, we assumed that the tools without any evidence of an API do not have an API. We have also provided some additional findings that could be helpful for the context of this research. In this way, we were able to complete the research.
