How much does summer day camp cost in Seattle?
Hi! Thank you for your question regarding the cost of summer day camps in the Seattle area.
From my research, the costs of summer camps in or near Seattle ranges from $160 per week to $1195. The median cost is $327 per week and the average cost is $362.
Based on information from the American Camp Association (ACA), Seattle summer camps costs more than the national average. Nation-wide, the average cost of a day camp is $304 per week. Nonprofit organizations hosting day camps tend to range from $100 to $500 a week while for-profit organizations may charge over $500.
METHODOLOGY
To arrive at the above figures for Seattle I searched for websites that provided the cost information for a variety of summer day camps and entered those figures into the attached spreadsheet and used the available functions to calculate the median and average. Sources used include ParentMap.com, Seattle Parks and Recreations, Seattle area YMCA, and the University of Washington elementary and middle-school day camp information page. I excluded half-day and overnight programs from the list and only focused on camps running Monday through Friday and lasting 6 hours per day or longer. Several sources listed separate rates for shorter weeks, as well as discounts for siblings. Whenever those discounts were distinguishable, only the regular rate was used in the spreadsheet. If a range was provided, both the low and high numbers were entered.
FINDINGS
The YMCA offers some of the most affordable options with Outdoor Day Camps starting at $160 for a full regular week. (Short weeks and holiday weeks are reduced.) The Parks and Recreations Department of Seattle also offers plenty of affordable options for a wide range of activities. However, most of their programs involve half-day or one-day option. Full day camps begin at $190 for a teen activity camp and range up to $350 for a drama camp. The most expensive day camps are for STEM activities. Digital Media Academy for example runs up to $1195 per child per week.
