What does Revel POS, TouchBistro POS, and Toast POS charge for hardware and software implementation of their point of sale system?

Hi! Thanks for your question about the implementation costs for Revel POS, TouchBistro POS, and Toast POS. Startup costs for these POS systems can run between a few hundred and a couple thousand dollars. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find exact pricing for Revel POS, but I found specific pricing models for the other two. I found Merchant Maverick's reviews and the companies' websites most helpful in getting the pricing information I did. Read on to see what I found!

METHODOLOGY

I started with each POS system's website to see if any pricing information was available. When that information wasn't publicized, I searched around for customer reviews or company profiles that at least got me close to a pricing estimate. I've also tried to provide an avenue to get a quote for installation of each system.

REVEL

Unfortunately, Revel doesn't make pricing information public. However, Software Insider provides some annual cost estimates from customers that put the annual cost somewhere between $1,000 and $5,000.

Revel is one of a few POS systems like Aireus and Lavu that have higher startup costs. One estimate, focused on installation and startup costs, put the startup fee at $1,000, with an additional $1,500 hardware installation and a monthly fee thereafter of anywhere from $70 to $200. More recent reviews suggest that that $1,000 startup fee is now "built into the subscription" and that Revel tiers their subscriptions based on the number of devices connected to your POS, though again, specific package pricing isn't available. Revel also now offers a low-hardware-cost "Revel as a Service (RaaS)" pricing model.

Once the system is in place, the iOS apps that connect to the POS are all free. For more accurate pricing information, Software Advice can put you in touch with POS vendors. Revel themselves also offer an option to get a direct quote.

TOUCHBISTRO

TouchBistro offers four subscription models based on the number of devices that will connect to the POS -- each license allows one iPad to connect the POS network. TouchBistro charges $69/month for one license, $129/month for two, $249/month for up to five, and $399/month for as many as you need.

The only hardware need for TouchBistro is "an iPad or iPad mini and a cash register" -- it's much less elaborate than other POS systems. iPads run anywhere from $269 for an iPad Mini to $999 for the highest-capacity iPad Pro, and cash registers can be had on Amazon for under $100, so hardware startup costs for TouchBistro can be relatively painless at the one-license level.

Like Revel, TouchBistro's iOS apps are free, and the POS is capable of running in a web browser as well. TouchBistro offers a free demo upon request, and can provide a direct quote as well.

TOAST

Toast POS, helpfully, offers basic pricing information right on its website. They offer software subscription packages at $79/month and $99/month, with special enterprise pricing available on request. Toast also offer add-on services with additional monthly costs: "$25/month for the Loyalty Program, $50/month for Physical and Digital Gift Cards, and $50/month for Online Ordering."

Hardware costs include a central POS terminal at $610 for a basic 10" model and $899 and above for more elaborate models at 10", 15", and 22". Package deals include a $450 tablet option and a $1350 terminal option that comes with "a receipt printer, cash drawer, tablet, stand, case, and credit card reader." With the $99/month subscription, users have the option to buy additional POS tablets at $450 apiece, but the POS also runs in a web browser or in a free Android app. They don't offer an iOS option.

For more specific price information, Toast can provide a direct quote.

CONCLUSION

Specific pricing information for Revel POS isn't available, but they operate on a per-device subscription model with a monthly fee. Hardware costs in this case would mostly come from the price of the iOS devices needed to connect to the POS network.

Similarly, TouchBistro has very low hardware cost; all you need is one iPad and a cash register to get started. They charge a monthly fee between $69 and $399, based on the number of connected devices.

Toast POS has higher hardware costs initially but more moderate monthly software costs. Toast offers a bare-bones $450 tablet hardware package and a more robust $1350 terminal package at startup. Their standard monthly subscriptions cost $79/month and $99/month, with special enterprise pricing available on request.
