Innovation Contests

The 2020 Farm Bureau Agriculture Innovation Challenge, Future Agro Challenge, and the Rabbobank-MIT Food and Agribusiness Innovation Prize are three of the fourteen innovation competitions and challenges available in the United States. Competitions were also found at the regional and collegiate level.

2020 FARM BUREAU AGRICULTURE INNOVATION CHALLENGE

  • The American Farm Bureau Federation, in partnership with Farm Credit, has opened online applications for the 2020 Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge. Entrepreneurs will compete for $145,.000 in startup funds. This is a national competition for rural competitors that showcases business innovations in food and agriculture. There are awards for the top ten finalists. They will compete at the AFBF Annual Convention.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES OF AMERICA AG INNOVATION PITCH COMPETITION

  • This is a showcase for companies that have solutions that can help both the customers and the industry as a whole. A $20,000 grand prize will be offered. Selected start-ups take the stage to pitch their innovative products, services and/or process direct to the farmers and ranchers who can benefit from them. Two competitors take home winnings to support their businesses.

FUTURE AGRO CHALLENGE

  • "And our passion is pushing the envelope until innovative and fundable food, agtech, and agriculture innovations have spread around the globe, from farm to fork and beyond. The Future Agro Challenge is the leading global competition, bringing together the best of the best to make it all happen." Applicants must have an innovative or scalable business idea or model in the agrifood innovation sector.

RABBOBANK-MIT FOOD &AGRIBUSINESS INNOVATION PRIZE

  • The Rabobank-MIT Food & Agribusiness Innovation Prize, sponsored by Rabobank and supported by MIT J-WAFS and the MIT Food and Agriculture Club, is a premier business-plan competition for university and graduate students. Up to $30,000 is available to be awarded.
  • Only one member of the team must be an active student.

THRIVE MIDWEST CHALLENGE

  • "The THRIVE Midwest Challenge is a pitch competition for startups developing Ag biotechnology, livestock, and animal health and digital crop technology relevant for Midwest farmers and producers. The THRIVE Challenges provide startups with an opportunity to showcase their solutions before an audience of investors, corporate partners, and local and national media. " All areas of the value chain that support agriculture are able to apply.

OSU FOOD PRODUCTION INNOVATION CHALLENGE

  • Oklahome State University will hold a competition for college students in Oklahoma to come up with innovative ideas for food and beverages. A $500 award will be given

INCREASED USE OF FERTILIZER

SCALE UP DISTRIBUTION OF QUALITY SEEDS

  • This competition is looking for a successful plan that will provide farmers with quality seeds. The plan must include monitoring, testing, and commitment to change if needed. $20,000 will be awarded.

INNOVATION SUSTAINABLE SOIL REMEMEDIATION METHODS

  • The competition is to come up with new, innovative ways to remediate soil, more specifically, removing C>12 petroleum based hydrocarbons without soil transport. $20,000 will be awarded.

SHELFLIFE PREDICTION & STABILITY MEASUREMENTS FOR FOOD

  • This competition is looking for ways to "identify principles for analytical (bio)chemical methods that measure very small changes that occur in food products in a relatively short period of time. This will allow an estimation of reaction rates. Changes could be due to reactions such as lipid oxidation, Maillard reactions, enzyme-catalyzed lipolysis and enzyme-catalyzed proteolysis. Methods should not affect reaction kinetics."

BLUE-GREEN CHALLENGE

  • This competition is for any innovative solutions for oceanic and agricultural issues. $50,000 will be awarded.

2020 SYNGENTA CROP CHALLENGE

  • This crop challenge is to come up with a data analytics answer that can assist scientists and research to make advances in seed products. $8,500 will be awarded.

INDIGO TERRATON CHALLENGE

  • "The Terraton Challenge is asking innovators to develop solutions that advance the global effort to remove 1 trillion tons or a teraton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to enrich agricultural soils."

PURDUE STUDENT SOYBEAN INNOVATION COMPETITION

  • This competition is for Purdue students to come up with innovative soybean products. Up to $20,000 will be awarded.

LH CHEM GLOBAL INNOVATION COMPETITION

  • This program is for research by universities or institutions in the areas of energy, advanced materials, bio, and petrochemicals. $150,000 will be awarded.
