Screen Grabs - CVV Number
We analyzed 10 American companies to investigate how they asked for CVV numbers when a customer makes a payment. All companies asked for either a 'CVV number' or a 'security code' on their payment pages in order to gain this information.
We chose the following companies: JC Penny, Olive Garden, Panera, Walmart, Travelocity, Hotels (Hotels.com), Boxed, eBay, Nike and Chownow. These companies are either in the retail, restaurants, hospitality or travel industry. Screenshots of their payment pages can be found in this google document.
Wording and the placement of the CVV box were the main differences between the apps we analyzed. JC Penny, Olive Garden, Boxed and Chownow all asked for a 'CVV number' on their payment pages. Panera, Walmart, Travelocity, Hotels, eBay and Nike all requested a 'security code' on their payment pages.
