CVC Platform Competitive Benchmarking - Saleforce Ventures, Comcast Ventures, Bloomberg Beta
As requested, I supplemented the "VC" tab of the attached spreadsheet with the information about FirstMark Capital. This New York-based early-stage VC firm makes over 90% of its investments in seed and Series A rounds. They primarily support visionary entrepreneurs, who can convince FirstMark that their product or service will disrupt the market despite "its TAM being zero." The company is best known for hosting over 100 tech events each year, which focus on big data, AI, design, and frontier tech. Through them, entrepreneurs can build their commercial networks and increase brand awareness. It's also the main differentiator, along with the company's focus on potential disruptors at a very early stage.
Additionally, FirstMark is recognized for using software that tracks every introduction and action they make on behalf of startups. They make more than 1,000 introductions each year, and four people are responsible for overseeing the tracking. Startups are provided with annual reports on the company's efficacy. While most of the other services aren't described in detail, it's noted that FirstMark works closely with entrepreneurs it supports. It currently has 84 startups in its portfolio and 35 employees (according to LinkedIn). The Platform Team helps businesses they invest in to upgrade their talent, while the Corporate Development Team assists them with finding customers. Also, the company encourages collaboration between its portfolio startups.
A more detailed overview of the FirstMark's platform can be found on the attached spreadsheet. Please note that the company doesn't disclose much information about its services. I gathered as much data as possible from the company's website, press releases, and articles in tech and startup media.
