Station Executives

Research Strategy

There was very limited news coverage regarding the station itself, which is highly expected as community radios are seldomly ever news worthy. To determine competitors, radio listings in the areas in and around the Research Triangle were reviewed. Radio stations deemed to be materially different in their content were excluded as direct competitors. With the majority of stations falling under different genres such as Christian, Rock, Talk or Country radio or were classified as campus radio stations, the only viable competitors found were the two listed. As this is a community radio, nation-wide top 40 chart radios were not considered. Lastly, the radio station only lists three station executives, two of which are radio personalities. Considering the size of the parent organization and the relatively small contribution made by this community station, it was deemed inappropriate to list CMG executives as part of the Pulse FM executive team.

Research Strategy

When looking into social media handles, many of the executives did not have a social media handle, or it was not readily present in any searches. After the initial strategy of searching each executive listed for a twitter handle, searches were conducted within the few handles identified, to see if they were following/followed by fellow co-workers. Finally, any executive not identified through a general google or twitter search, was additionally searched on Facebook. For those whose social media sites could not be identified, the company executive list was linked, providing a bio and picture of the management team member. When identifying the time shows were aired, some of this information became difficult to identify, and was not advertised on the show web page, radio channel page, or social media sites. Other sources were referenced to identify air time, such as other radio websites like tunein.com. Using websites such as All Access and Inside Radio, a press search was conducted, but none of the companies listed in the request resulted in the identification of a collaboration. The only result showing a connection was on the Triton Digital's website, listing the Curtis Media Group as a member of their marketplace.

Research Strategy:

To find information on WMGV-FM, we first explored its website and found details on the shows, executives, and personalities. We then searched for media publications and press releases to find recent news about the company on sites such as GreenvilleNC.

For the competitors, we searched through various radio directories and databases meant for locating radio stations in Newport, NC, since WMGV operates within this particular area. The idea here was to find the names of radio stations operating in the Newport area and check whether they can be considered a competitor to WMGV. With this strategy, we identified radio stations near WMGV, and based on the similar stations listed on Radio Lineup and Radio Locator, we provided a list of some of its competitors.

Next, to determine if the station has any partnerships/collaborations/associations with Triton Digital, Spreaker, Omny Studios, The Complete Sheet, JacApps, Dataminr, and StreamGuys, we consulted the official website of the station and its parent company Curtis Media Group, as well as sites like All Access, RAMP, Inside Radio, Radio Ink, etc. However, we could not find any evidence of such partnerships.

To find the station's friendly name, we reviewed its official website and Facebook page, as well as radio directories and databases like Radio Lineup, among others. We concluded that the company's friendly name is likely V103.3 Carolina's Best Mix.
