Educational Programs Details - Freeport 2

Introduction

All requested information on educational programs in Freeport 2 has been provided in rows 13-22, Columns E-G and I-L on the "Freeport, TX" tab of the attached spreadsheet. Below are some selected findings:

Selected Findings

  • The tuition cost at South Coast Welding Academy is $50K+.
  • The tuition cost for the pipefitting program at Alvin Community College is $2,100.00 and $2,170 for the in-district and out-of-district students, respectively. The welding course program at Alvin Community College takes six months (November 2021-February 2022), while the pipefitting course program takes three months. The tuition cost for Alvin Community College's welding program is $6,944.28.
  • The cost of Austin Electrical Training Alliance's apprenticeship program is $475.
  • Galveston Electrical JATC apprenticeship program is a sponsored educational program. A non-refundable fee of $20 is charged when applying for the program.
  • In-district students at Wharton County Junior College incur a tuition fee of $1,214. However, students taking more than 13 hours of academic transfer courses enjoy a discount. In contrast, those enrolled in the academic program courses take any course for free.
  • Houston Community College's tuition cost for the electrical technology program for the in-district students is under $25K+.

Research Strategy

To provide the requested information, our research team leveraged each program's website, the organization's websites, and course brochures, where we obtained all required information. Even so, we triangulated the costs and lengths for some educational programs.

First, to determine the tuition fee for the machine and welding technology programs at Brazosport College, we assumed that all enrolled students were In-district. We computed the total tuition fee as ($90.50 (fee per 1 credit hour) * 60 (total credit hours) + ($68 (additional course fee per credit hour) * 60 (total credit hours) = $9,510. Some additional fees that were also charged for specific courses can be found here. We also assumed that the course completion time of the associate of applied science course was similar to that of the machine technology program as they had equal credit hours (60 hours).

Second, to determine the tuition fee at South Coast Welding Academy, we summed up the total costs for each welding program ($3,500+$3,500+$3,500+$4,500+$6,500+$6,500+$9,000+$6,000+$6,000+$6,000 = $55,000). In addition, to determine the course completion time (length), we summed up the total course time for each welding program (4 weeks + 4 weeks + 4 weeks + 4 weeks + 8 weeks + 8 weeks + 12 weeks + 4 weeks + 4 weeks + 3 weeks = 55 weeks (less than 2 years).

Third, to determine the tuition costs at Alvin Community College for the welding program for the in-district students, we summed up the fees for both levels ($4,064.20 + $2,880.08 = $6,944.28). We also assumed that the course completion time for the pipefitting program (160 hours) was half the time taken to complete the welding program (320 hours). Therefore, the length of the pipefitting program was three months (6 months / 2).

Fourth, to determine the tuition cost for the Austin Electrical Training Alliance apprenticeship program, we multiplied the yearly instruction cost ($475) by the program's duration (5 years).

Lastly, to determine the tuition costs at Houston Community College for the electrical technology program for the in-district students, we summed up the fees for all semester hours under this category.
