Demographics of Craigslist Users in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The total number of visitors to the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist page is around 33.585 million users per month. This number was found using web analytics about site traffic, and using a methodology which I will explain in detail below. There is no publicly available information about the numbers based on gender and age group, though we found some interesting information that may help us to make some basic assumptions about the age and gender of users.
Average monthly craigslist users and methodology
Using the numbers provided from the web analytics concerning the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist page, we found the number of visitors from the last 6 months based on web traffic statistics. Those monthly statistics are as follows:
February 2018: 31.41 million visitors
January 2018: 35.6 million visitors
December 2017: 32.9 million visitors
November 2017 34.9 million visitors
October 2017: 37.7 million visitors
September 2017: 29 million visitors
With this information, we added the monthly statistics up to find that there were 201.51 million visitors within the past 6 months, which averages to 33.585 million visitors per month.
craigslist users by gender
While the exact numbers for the San Francisco Bay Area were not available, we do know that the gender breakdown of the Craigslist audience in general is similar to the general population, though women are slightly more likely than the general internet population to use Craigslist. Assuming this analysis to be true, roughly half of Craigslist users would be female, given that men are slightly more likely to use the internet regularly in developed nations.
Craigslist users by age
While the exact numbers for the San Francisco Bay Area were not available, we have a general concept of the age breakdown of Craigslist users as a whole. A study done in 2009 found that online classifieds sites are most popular with young adults. The precise age groups requested were not specified, but when asked if they have ever used an online classifieds site like Craigslist, this was the age breakdown of those who reported that they had:
49% of 18-24 year olds
62% of 25-34 year olds
57% of 35-44 year olds
48% of 45-54 year olds
35% of 55-64 year olds
26% of 65+ year olds
While this does not specify the age breakdown of users for the San Francisco Bay Area, it does show those between the ages of 25-34 are far more likely to utilize Craigslist in general, followed by those between the ages of 35-44.
Craigslist usage in the San Francisco Bay area is fairly high, and it accounts for 9.04% of Craigslist usage in the United States in general. With an average of 33.585 million visits per month, it is clearly a profitable site. While a demographic breakdown of site visitors in the San Francisco Bay Area was not publicly available, we can use what we know about the gender breakdown of total Craigslist usage and the age breakdown of total Craigslist usage to make some basic assumptions. Given what we know about the general use of Craigslist, the gender breakdown is more than likely even, and those between the ages of 25-44 are statistically more likely to use the website.
