To identify the major players in the global male cosmetics market, we focused on finding players identified on market research reports on the male cosmetics market as key players in the market. However, our research revealed that most of the reports in the market focused on the male grooming market in general. Research and Market notes in its market research report that male grooming market includes products such as "shaving creams, deodorants, aftershave colognes and shampoos, moisturizers, facial creams, bronzers, concealers, serums, face masks as well as a number of anti-aging products." Since these are more or less cosmetic products, we relied on market research on the male grooming market to identify key players in the male cosmetics space by analyzing four independent global market research reports (Mordor Intelligence, Inkwood Research, Research and Market and MarketResearch.biz) on the market and selecting five players in the male cosmetics space that appear in at least two of the four market research reports.

For each of the five players selected, we tried to rank them based on their revenue from male cosmetics products. We looked at their annual report to see if data on just revenue from the male cosmetics products is available, but none of the companies provided this data on their annual report and generally only reported overall revenue and/or revenue from personal care products. Next, we searched industry reports, media reports, and research databases such as Statista, CBInsights, Crunchbase, Cosmetics Europe, Business Insider, Allied Market Research, among others. However, we couldn't find data on just the male cosmetics revenue of these brands. Most reports focused on top products from some brands in the male cosmetic space. We found a report by Zion Market Research listing the global market size of the cosmetics industry in 2017 as $532 billion. We corroborated our findings with information from Orbis Research, but none of these reports listed concealers, tinted moisturizer, or BB cream as a segment of the global cosmetics market.

Next, we searched for industry reports from experts to find a breakdown of the cosmetics industry. We found a detailed market breakdown of the global cosmetics market according to the different segments by L’Oréal, a global leader in the industry. L’Oréal listed the market segments of the global cosmetics industry as skincare, hair care, makeup, fragrances, and hygiene products. Since we were unable to pinpoint any global market analysis that mentioned the market share of the concealers, tinted moisturizer, or BB cream segments of the worldwide market, we identified the global market size of each segment.
