RESEARCH STRATEGY:

We commenced our research by first looking for the competitors of W.W. Grainger so that we could later on search through the databases of each company to confirm whether they have an e-commerce website or not. We searched through company analysis databases such as Crunchbase, Hoover, Owler, and Craft.co. Majority of the competitors that we encountered have an e-commerce website and some other competitors were hidden due to paywall privacy of the above databases. So we were unable to gather any competitor by this method.

We then searched for some precompiled top industrial distributors list so that we could sort out those that are competitors to W.W. Grainger as well as those that do not have any e-commerce website. We were able to gather some top lists by MDM (Modern Management System) and the Industrial Distribution website. Luckily, these lists also contained W.W. Grainger. We then searched through each of the company website and their subsidiaries website and after an extensive review, we were able to sort out those competitors that do not have any e-commerce website and hence populated the spreadsheet.
