Case Studies of the Benefits of Hemp Cream or Oil That Does Not Contain CBD

After thoroughly searching and analyzing various articles and reports, my colleague and I came to a conclusion that there is very limited research on the benefits of using hemp cream or oil that does not contain CBD. Presently, there is little information about the application of CBN or CBG products in cream or oil form because these are new products coming into the market in comparison to the well-known and better-established CBD based products. However, we found a couple of general case studies that highlight a few of the benefits associated with using hemp creams or oils without CBD.

Below you will find a deep dive of our research and findings.

OVERVIEW AND FINDINGS

While most of our findings are not purely scientific, we unearthed a 2007 cannabinoid research published in the Journal of Dermatological Science. It stated that, cannabinoids restrain the rapid increase in human keratinocyte via a non-CB1/CB2 process and have a likelihood of therapeutic value in treating psoriasis. This journal drew our attention because it is the most referenced in many scientific discussions about the use/benefits/applications for CBN.

A general case study by Greendorphin - (a modern cannabis infused lifestyle magazine) noted that, formal research on the matter is low, especially in the United States; however, countries such as Israel and Germany are advancing research in this area. The article noted that topical uses of CBN include treating burns and psoriasis.

Another article by Medical Marijuana Inc. - the world’s 1st legal supply of CBD noted that CBN offers many therapeutic benefits such as promoting sleep, stimulating bone growth, preventing glaucoma, stimulating appetite, and providing antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects. All these assertions have scientific evidence sow of which dates back more than a decade.

A review of one of the few high CBN products, 'Mary's Medicinal's CBN Transdermal Patches,' - (wrist patch) reveals how it treats insomnia. According to the review and I quote, "The CBN patch started to make me feel a little bit drowsy during the last half hour of my movie, and had me nice and relaxed by the time it was ready to go to bed." This review shows one of the effects of CBN in treating insomnia.

An article in Westword focused on CBN and CBG products from Evolab that will soon appear on the market noted that, "The body oil, skin-repair lotion and healing salve will incorporate the three cannabinoids (CBD, CBN, and CBG) and THC to engage a user's endocannabinoid system." The report further noted that, "The challenge is that most traditional strains don’t produce enough CBN or CBG to commercialize, so the last couple years we’ve been working with other breeders and growers to find ways to increase that." Lastly, Evolab's new lotion, oil and salve will only be purchased from dispensaries and the THC in them cannot get users high, it is absorbed through the skin, instead.

A mini-case study on Herbal Dispatch confirmed that CBN’s most distinct, characterizing element is its sedative effect, which unlike THC, "induces little to no psychoactive effects".

EXAMPLES OF CBN PRODUCTS

Presently, there are not many CBN products on the market; however, there are many ongoing productions of CBN-based products. A few notable brands include Mary's Medicinal's with products such as the CBN transdermal patches, transdermal pen, topical compound, bootlegger distillate, etc.

Evolab, a renowned producer of CBN products has a comprehensive chart showing their core products. On their chart, only FreshTerps is currently available and is the only product without THC or CBD. Evolab takes pride in being the only ones extracting the 'entourage' that excludes THC, CBD, CBG and CBN. Thus, the only possible products available outside of THC and CBD contain CBN and/or CBG.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we could not find case studies specific to the benefits of using hemp cream or oil that does not contain CBD. Most of the research in this area is still in its infancy stage, hence, the scarcity of information. Overall, we have provided a few general case studies that provide the general benefits of CBN and a few CBN-based products and their benefits.
