Business Statistics: US, Europe, Australia, Japan
According to the latest data reported by the requested countries, the US has 1.5 million businesses with 10 to 250 employees, Europe has 1.7 million, Australia has over 50 thousand, and Japan has 94 thousand. The complete overview regarding the number of businesses by employer count in these countries is provided below.
United States
- According to the NAICS Association, as of October 2020, there were a total of 1.5 million businesses with 10 to 250 employees in the US.
- This number was calculated by adding the total number of businesses with 10 to 19 employees (774,364), 20 to 49 (467,711), 50 to 99 (169,905), and 100 to 249 (93,973), which gave us a total of 1,505,953.
Europe
- According to the latest data from Statista, there are 1,472,400 businesses in Europe with 10 to 49 employees and 235,670 with 50 to 249. This gives us a total of 1,708,070 businesses with 10 to 250 employees (calculated from 1,472,400 + 235,670).
Australia
- According to Australia's last report from 2019, there are 2,259,098 businesses with 0 to 19 employees, 50,338 with 20 to 199 employees, and 3,855 with over 200 employees.
- Since the country does not report a more precise count (e.g. the number of businesses with 10 to 19 employees), we could conclude that it has over 50 thousand businesses with 10 to 250 employees as it is impossible to calculate how many businesses with 200 to 250 and 10 to 19 there are in the country.
Japan
- According to the OECD latest data, Japan has 40,011 businesses with 10 to 19 employees, 32,915 with 20 to 49, and 21,161 with 50 to 249. This gives a total of 94,087 businesses with 10 to 250 employees (calculated from: 40,011 + 32,915 + 21,161).
