Browser Features (2A)

The features for the requested browsers have been reviewed and checked whether they are native to the browser. All the listed features for both Firefox 70 and 75 are native to the browser and therefore no new changes have been made to columns B-C of the attached spreadsheet.

Firefox Features

  • Firefox 70 and 75 are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Both versions of the browser are also available for Android and iOS.

Browser Features (2B)

All items marked with a green check in columns D-F of the attached spreadsheet have been verified. Four cells have been changed from a green check to an X. The webpages in six cells have been updated to reflect the required features.

Changed Made to the Spreadsheet

  • D5 and E5 have been changed from a green check to an X because an extension is required to add a cryptomining scripts blocker in Chrome (74) and Chrome (81).
  • F9 has been changed from a green check to an X as further research has indicated that Edge/Edgium (80) does not have a dashboard to review blocked trackers.
  • F29 has been changed from a green check to an X because an extension is required to add a master password feature in Edge/Edgium (80).
  • The green check in D12 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the autoplay blocking feature in Chrome (74).
  • The green check in E13 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the tab browsing feature in Chrome (81).
  • The green check in E18 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the reader mode feature in Chrome (81).
  • The green check in E19 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the spell-checking feature in Chrome (81).
  • The green check in E20 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the extensions feature in Chrome (81).
  • The green check in F16 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the search engine options feature in Edge/Edgium (80).

Browser Features (2C)

The items marked with a checkmark in columns G-I of the attached spreadsheet have been verified. Only the 'Master password' cell in column G (Edge) has been changed from a checkmark to an X. Multiple cells, including the H21 and I21 cells, have been changed from a checkmark to an X for Safari 12 and Safari 13. More information on the topic has been presented below, along with an outline of the research strategy.

Changes Made

  • The G29 cell has been changed from a checkmark to an X because Microsoft Edge requires an extension, such as Dashlane and LastPass, to set the master password protection feature.
  • The checkmark in the H6 cell remains the same. However, the webpage has been updated to provide accurate information on Safari 12's feature for blocking fingerprinting scripts.
  • The H7 and I7 cells have been changed from a checkmark to an X because an extension like Gostery Lite should be used to block the social trackers in Safari 12 and Safari 13.
  • The checkmarks in the H16, I19, H27, and I27 cells remain the same. However, the links in the H16 and I19 cells have been updated to provide accurate information on Safari 12's search engine options feature and Safari 13's spell-checking feature, respectively. Similarly, the required links for the H27 and I27 cells have been added.
  • The H21 and I21 cells have been changed from a checkmark to an X because an extension should be used to take screenshots in Safari 12 and Safari 13. In Safari, screenshots can also be taken by saving the webpage as a PDF. However, it does not provide accurate results and has many cons. There is no direct tool for taking screenshots on the browser. Another complex method is to use the developers' tools to take a screenshot. A user has to enter into Safari DevTools and select a node to capture the screenshot. Using an extension is a highly suggested method because it is easier, fast, and more accurate.

Research Strategy

After going through all the features provided for Microsoft Edge 81, Safari 12, and Safari 13 in the spreadsheet, we were able to verify if the items marked with a checkmark were native to the respective browsers. While going through the webpages presented in the cells, we found that some of the links were dead or did not contain accurate information. Therefore, the links for such cells have been updated. In this way, we were able to gather all the information required to complete this research.

Browser Features (2D)

All items marked with a green check in columns J-L of the attached spreadsheet have been verified. Only the "text to speech" cells in the Opera (60) and Opera (67) columns have been changed from a green check to an X. The webpages for some cells in the Internet Explorer (11) column have been updated to reflect the required features.

Changed Made to the Spreadsheet

  • Cells J17 and K17 have been changed from a green check to an X because an extension is required to add the text to speech in Opera (60) and Opera (67).
  • The green check in L15 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the AutoComplete feature in Internet Explorer 11.
  • The green check in L17 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the Windows Narrator, a text to speech feature in Internet Explorer 11.
  • The green check in L19 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the built-in spell-checker feature in Internet Explorer 11.
  • The green check in L20 remains unchanged, but the webpage has been updated to provide actual information for the add-ons feature in Internet Explorer 11.
