Ten of the largest health companies located in New Jersey include medical device manufacturing companies such as Stryker, Medtronic, Abbott Laboratories, and ConvaTec; biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies like Roche and GlaxoSmithKline; testing and diagnostic solutions companies such as Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, and Bio-Reference; and a hospital system, RWJBarnabas Health. The website, latest annual revenue, number of employees, and the name and title of innovation-related contact persons for these companies have been provided in the attached spreadsheet. A brief overview of the findings can be found below.

Research Strategy

To find the largest health companies located in New Jersey, we leveraged a list of top life sciences companies in New Jersey published by the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development. This list focused on major pharmaceutical, biotechnology (R&D), and medical device manufacturing companies operating in New Jersey. We also used several other top listings of medical device companies, biotech, and other health companies to identify some of the largest health companies operating in New Jersey.

Eleven additional large health companies located in New Jersey include medical device and equipment manufacturing companies such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and Cardinal Health, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies like Sanofi, Bayer, Novartis, and Bristol-Myers Squibb; as well as healthcare providers and hospital systems such as Hackensack Meridian Health, Virtua Health, Atlantic Health System, Cooper University Health Care, and Trinity Health. The website, latest annual revenue, number of employees, and the name and title of innovation-related contact persons for these companies have been provided in the attached spreadsheet. A brief overview of the findings can be found below.
  • Thermo Fisher Scientific has more than 75,000 employees. The company generated $25 billion in revenue in 2019.
  • Daryl Belock is the VP, R&D innovation at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Cardinal Health has 48,000 employees and an annual revenue of $145.5 billion.
  • Bayer has 103,824 employees and an annual revenue of $46.7 billion.
  • Monika Lessl is the head of corporate innovation, R&D and societal engagement at Bayer.
  • Sylvia Romm is the chief innovation officer at Atlantic Health System.
