RESEARCH STRATEGY

In order to identify the Fortune 500 companies that have been recognized as having a strong and/or creative social media presence, your research team first looked for any media article providing a list of Fortune 500 companies with strong and/or creative social media presence or Fortune 500 companies that have won an award for their social media presence. While searching, we were able to find a list of Fortune 500 companies that have won or been in the list of finalists or nominees of the Annual Shorty Awards that is known to "honor the best people and organizations on social media." Also, we found that "millions of people participate in The Shortys to recognize individuals and organizations producing great content on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, TikTok, and the rest of the social web."

The above-mentioned source listed some Fortune 500 companies that have won Annual Shorty Awards for "producing great content" on social media. These companies include American Express, Disney, America Honda Motor Co., GE, Southwest Airlines, and others. We reviewed the Instagram content of these companies from the past two years to identify any award-related posts. This is important to note that to identify the Fortune 500 companies that have been recognized as having a strong and/or creative social media presence, we had to expand our research criteria to get some award-winning companies. This is due to the reason that none of the recent sources such as credible media posts provided a list of award-winning Fortune 500 companies that have been recognized for their social media presence. Although some blog sites had this data, we chose only to rely only on credible media sites and so we expanded our research criteria beyond two years and were able to conduct research on three of the Fortune 500 companies (American Express, Southwest Airlines, and GE) with strong social media presence for their award-related posts on Instagram.

Also, while reviewing each company's Instagram content from the past two years to identify any awards-related posts, we had look through several Instagram pages for each of these companies (American Express, Southwest Airlines, and GE). For example, GE, GE Healthcare, GE Appliances, GE Power, and others.
