What is the average rate of an initial and follow up visit out of pocket rate for the top 10 out of network chiropractors in midtown manhattan?
Hello, and thank you for your request for pricing information for chiropractors in midtown Manhattan. In short, Manhattan Wellness Clinic, Peterson Chiropractic, Body in Balance Chiropractic, and Rockefeller Health and Medical Chiropractic are among the top chiropractic clinics in midtown Manhattan. Despite a thorough search of company websites and review sites, we have determined that the top practices in this area do not, for the most part, publish pricing or time spent during a visit. We have provided details on 11 practices in the area. You'll find a deep dive of our research below.
METHODOLOGY
To determine the top ten chiropractors in midtown Manhattan, we searched for "Best Of" lists, which returned a series of user-rated reviews from Yelp, divided by Midtown West and Midtown East. The list below includes a combination of highly rated practitioners selected from the Yelp list, the four practices you requested, and two additional offices that fit your criteria. Unfortunately, none of the chiropractic firms list pricing or session times on their websites. As Wonder only uses publicly available internet sources for its research, the information on pricing and times noted below has been gleaned from reviews found on Yelp or ratemds. In many cases, pricing found in these reviews is significantly older than we would generally like to present. For that reason, we have included the dates on which the reviews were posted. It is also important to note that of those reviews that mention pricing, most were found in negative reviews, and some of those stemmed from issues with coverage by their insurance company (in some cases because the practice was out of network).
The firms below are listed in no particular order.
TOP CHIROPRACTIC FIRMS IN MANHATTAN
Manhattan Wellness Group accepts insurance from Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Guardian, Oxford, United Healthcare, and UMR, though they do not list prices for either in or out of network visits. They are currently offering a coupon for a Massage and Chiropractic treatment session for $39, discounted from $189. The package includes a 30-minute massage with a chiropractic visit. On their Yelp profile, the company offers a $120 voucher for just $49, a discount of 59%. A review of customer comments on Yelp revealed no other information pricing or duration of visits.
Peterson Chiropractic does not list pricing on their website, though they work with a number of insurance providers including BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Beech Street and United Healthcare. The practice's Yelp profile offers $195 in services for $125, a savings of 36%. A Yelp review posted in August of 2016 indicates that there is a $25 copay with at least one BlueCross plan. The reviewer (who was unhappy and rated the company with just 1 star) went on to say, "I was billed for $725 for one visit after I asked if the office was in network with my insurance, blue cross and was told I only had a $25 copay. A month after I get a claim from my insurance asking $725 for one visit at Peterson's with a 'detailed' bill adding for one visit $265, $200 $150 and $110!!" In a response to this review, the company replied that their initial visits last between 30 and 60 minutes.
Body in Balance Chiropractic's website neither lists pricing nor which insurance plans they accept. Their Yelp profile also does not have a price list, though it does indicate that they accept insurance. The most recent customer review that mentions pricing is from March of 2015. The customer indicates that they paid $2,600 for a 3 month intensive care plan. No details were given regarding services rendered for that fee.
Rockefeller Health & Medical does not publish a price list on their website, nor do they provide a list of accepted insurance plans. Additionally, their Yelp profile does not list official prices. The most recent review mentioning prices was posted in January of 2016. The customer indicated that he had paid out of network a total of $2,190, $700 of which was for a New Doctor Visit. He goes on to say that he "was in and out in less than 60 minutes, including filling out paperwork and waiting."
JCohen Chiropractic's website does not list pricing or insurance information. A March of 2016 customer wrote on Yelp that she was pitched a $2,000 health plan, though she provides no details as to what was included in that. An older review, from December of 2014 cites a Groupon that gave them three sessions for $49. The reviewer says, "for that I got my back and neck 'cracked'/adjusted by a skilled, well-trained chiropractor, and hands-on stretching by another doctor afterwards, gym training sessions, with even more stretching afterwards by Matt, massage, and a free X-ray that revealed some serious issues that I wasn't quite aware of."
6. Dr. Douglas Seckendorf
There is very little current, publicly available information on Dr. Seckendorf's practice. We could find no website for his practice, his Yelp profile has just one review (which provide no insights related to your question), and we could find no helpful information on his social media profiles. We did find a profile with ten reviews on ratemds.com, though they are significantly older that we would normally present. A review from 2010 states that they paid $450 for an initial visit and were asked to return three times per week at a cost of $200 per visit. These prices are most likely not still relevant, seven years on, but they are the only point of reference we could find.
Dr. Shoshony's website does not list pricing information, though it does have an offer for a free phone consultation. The practice accepts many major insurance providers, including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, PHCS, Guardian, and Cigna. A survey of recent reviews on Yelp did not return any details on the length of appointments or pricing. One reviewer noted in July of 2016 that "they will charge you only your insurer's specialist co-pay at the time of service, but if your insurance company sends checks for the covered portion of the services directly to you, they expect you to forward them on to them or pay for the services yourself." While significantly older information, a reviewer on ratemds said in 2012 that "my 2 times 40 minutes treatment session with him end (sic) up costing me $1500 out of pocket and my treatment (sic) are very straight forward lower back adjustment. If you ever visit this doctor, make sure either your insurance covers everything all you need is a copay or you pay the amount of $175/100 (amount they charge for patient who doesn't have insurance)." Again, this information is about five years old and could not otherwise be verified.
Dr. Winnick's website does not list pricing, though it does say that "payment is made directly to our office. We gladly accept checks and all major credit cards. If you have health insurance, we will provide you with a computer-generated form that is properly coded with procedures and diagnosis for you to submit to your carrier for reimbursement. If your health insurance company requires preauthorization, an initial report, or a treatment plan, we will furnish that too." There is no listing of health insurance plans accepted by the office. A Yelp reviewer of the practice noted in 2011 that she had been charged $750 for three appointments (the last one was only 11 minutes in duration).
Oasis Chiropractic works with many major insurance plans, including BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna. While they do not list pricing on their website, they note that they offer many "interest free cash plans." A 2014 reviewer notes that they were in and out in 35 minutes, though they do not specify services received. An examination of other reviews reveals no data on pricing.
Rudin Chiropractic is not featured on Yelp's top 10 lists, but it is in your target area. They have five reviews on Yelp and an overall 5-star rating. We have included them here because they are one of the few practices that post their pricing. Their website lists service fees as follows: Initial visits costs $190.00 and include history, exam, and adjustment. Follow up visits start at $90.00. Wellness/preventative visits start at $60.00 and for these services they offer a number of payment options. They note that initial visits usually last 30-45 minutes and follow up visits could be as short as 10-15 minutes, depending on the treatment.
Gioffre Chiropractic is also note featured on Yelp's best of list, but it is in your target area. They have 6 reviews on Yelp with an overall 5-star rating. As with Rudin, we have included them here because they are one of the few practices that publish their pricing on their website. According to their website, the practice offers no charge consultations. New Patient Examinations are $350 and adjustments are $70. They report on their website that their "fees are in keeping with, and in many cases, less than those that are usual and customary for chiropractic care in Manhattan." We could find no information on how long each visit lasts.
CONCLUSION
To sum it up, Manhattan Wellness Clinic, Peterson Chiropractic, Body in Balance Chiropractic, and Rockefeller Health and Medical Chiropractic are among the top chiropractic clinics in midtown Manhattan. While most of these practices do not list pricing or describe appointment durations on their websites, we were able to determine that Rudin Chiropractic charges $190 for the initial visit (30-45 minutes long), follow up visits start at $90 (as short as 10-15 minutes), and wellness/preventative visits start at $60. Gioffre Chiropractic's new patient exams are $350 and adjustments are $70.
