Apptio has about eight different product offerings. They include IT Financial Management Foundation, Cost Transparency, Cloud Business Management, Vendor Insights. Nonetheless, Apptio's products have been described below.

IT Financial Management

Apptio's official website was leveraged to find a full list of its products. The date each product was established was found by using an archive tool. In order to find the share of each product offered by Apptio, we first explored the company's press releases and news provided on its website. There, we were only able to find new product offerings, there was no mention of the share each product generates annually or the number of customers using them.

Next, we decided to examine annual reports published by the company and SEC filings. While these reports revealed the company's revenue by geography, there was no breakdown of revenue by product. We also tried looking for any mention of sales generated by each product but this was a futile attempt. We proceeded to examine data intelligence platforms like Statista and Hoovers. Again, these platforms offered total revenue or revenue by location but there was no mention of the number of customers using each product, revenue or sales by product.

Other research strategies include searching conference call transcripts related to the financial status of the company and financial news reports published by Business Insider among others. Unfortunately, these strategies failed to reveal any information on Apptio's revenue by products, number of customers by product, or the share each product accounts for. We were only able to find an aggregate share of Apptio's products.

Apptio offers six solutions. They include Digital Transformation, Cost Optimization, Cloud First, Agile & Devops, Service Transformation, and Corporate Shared Services. Although the share of Apptio's business or revenue each service represents could not be determined, the company's solutions have been described below.

The first one is the Apptio Agile Insights which is a SaaS solution where financial and execution analytics are uniquely combined. The other one is the Apptio Federal Insights which is designed specifically for IT and finance leaders at federal agencies.

Apptio® Agile Insights

  • Apptio Agile Insights is a SaaS solution that provides a unique combination of financial and execution analytics to measure value delivery, cost of quality and labor utilization.
  • This product is the first offering in a "financial governance vision" to track value delivery, to align the investments with strategies in business, and to optimize labor investment.

  • This product allows the user to view consolidated vendor spend. It includes applications, cloud providers, or shadow IT spend together with benchmarks.
  • It helps uncover defensible insights to help in decision-making.

It was stated from its press releases, that these products are upcoming and available early in the year 2019. To confirm that these products are upcoming, we also included the full list of Apptio's currently available products from its official website.

The company has not developed any special or innovative solutions specifically for large clients. Apptio provided a full list of its partners on its website. Only two companies were called strategic partners on Apptio's website. To be sure these are the only strategic partnerships Apptio has formed and to find any innovative solutions for large clients, we scoured the company's press releases via its website. This proved our initial findings and revealed nothing on innovative solutions for large clients. We also examined credible news articles published by Business Insider, Tech Crunch, and Geek Wire among others. These platforms confirmed that Apptio has only two strategic partners but they made no mention of any exclusive product or service that Apptio offered a large account. We then reviewed Apptio's annual report for information on its strategic partnerships and large clients it may have developed innovative solutions for. Seeing as Apptio went public in 2016 and later went back to being a private company recently, we only found its 2016 annual report. There, there was no mention of strategic partnerships or innovative solutions set aside for large accounts. However, case studies on a few "reputable" businesses that have used or still use Apptio were outlined. Since none of the resources we leveraged mentioned anything about innovative solutions or bundled packages for clients, we concluded that Apptio has not offered these services. Nonetheless, we provided information on the company's largest partners and clients.
