Agency Prospecting List, Part 1

Our research identified fifteen new media advertising agencies in the United States. The companies are; 360i, Allen & Gerritsen, Anthology Marketing Group, Apollo Interactive, Austin & Williams, Balcom Agency, BBR Creative, Bernstein-Rein Advertising, BFG Communications, Big Spaceship, Boathouse, Bozell, Brafton, Phase 3 Marketing and Communications, and BrandStar. The requested information has been entered into the attached spreadsheet.

methodology

We began our research by cross-referencing the companies with the EXCLUSION tab of the spreadsheet. Next we reviewed the Linkedin and company home page for each of the companies identified as having over 20 employees. For each company we ensured that their headquarters were located in the United States, and have a physical location. From there we determined that the companies were all new media agencies, based on the services they offer and the description they provide on their websites. To confirm that the companies are not owned by a larger holding company we consulted their websites and Crunchbase, we confirmed the companies were all independent companies.

Location, clients, annual revenue, conferences, and awards information of 360i, Allen & Gerritsen, Anthology Marketing Group, Apollo Interactive, and Austin & Williams have been provided in rows 3-7 the attached spreadsheet. Information pertaining to the conferences these companies will participate in 2019 is unavailable.

METHODOLOGY

We searched the company news section for announcements pertaining to the conferences they will be attending; however, none of the companies have made any such announcements (or at least published the same on their website). The only conference-related information we found was in the 360i news section covering Facebook's F8 Conference (earlier in 2019). Additionally, in the available time, we also searched the web pages of some top digital conferences like SMX West, Digital Summit, Pubcon Florida, but we didn’t find any of the agencies listed as participants.

In the case of Apollo Interactive, there was no information pertaining to the awards (received by the company) on the company website. The news section of the company redirects to the company home page. Given this limitation, we had to search for the required information in external sources.

We searched advertising industry and media websites like Advertising Age and Ad Week, but did not find any mention of awards won by Apollo Interactive. On Advertising Age, we found the agency listed as one of the top 50 interactive advertising agencies, but there was nothing about awards that it has won. Lastly, in the available time, we checked some award- function websites like Service Industry Advertising Awards, Addy's, Maven Awards, and Annual Hatch awards, but did not find Apollo Interactive listed as a winner in any of the sources.

SUMMARY

  • Other than New York, 360i is located at Atlanta, Chicago, California, and the UK. It has an annual revenue of $102.5 million and clients like 20th Century Fox, 7 Eleven, Coca Cola. It has won the Agency A-list award (Advertising Age) for the last 3 years.
  • Allen & Gerristen has its second office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It generates annual revenue of $14.5 million and has clients like Blue Cross Blue Shield, First Citizens Bank, and the Boston Celtics. It has won awards at the Annual Hatch Awards, Maven Awards, PR Week Awards, and the Addy’s.
  • Other than Hawaii, Anthology Marketing Group also has an office at Tamuning, Guam. It generates an annual revenue of $6.6 million and has clients primarily based in Hawaii. It has won at the PRSA Hawaii Koa Anvil Awards and Pele Awards.

We were able to provide additional details for Balcom Agency, BBR Creative, Bernstein-Rein Advertising, BFG Communications, and Big Spaceship in the attached spreadsheet rows 8 to 12, and columns K and M-P. Only BBR Creative and BFG Communications have more than one location. However, during our search, we were unable to locate information on conferences that the companies are set to attend.

METHODOLOGY

We leveraged on the companies' websites, Crunchbase, news articles and press releases like Event Marketer to provide information on location, conferences, awards, clients, and annual revenue for the selected companies. During our search, we could not find any information on the companies' annual revenue on their websites and Crunchbase except for BigSpaceship, BFG Communications, and Bernstein-Rein Advertising. We were also unable to locate any announcement made on conferences that the companies are set to attend.
We searched through the companies' social media platforms to find any information on upcoming conferences that they are planning to attend. However, our search was not fruitful. But, on Big Spaceship Facebook page, we noted that the company had entered into a new partnership with Sony in 2018. We then expanded our search to include conference search tools like Event Brite, Conference Series, and All-Conference Alert among others. However, our search was unfruitful.
Also, we were unable to find any award won by BFG Communications from its website. We then searched through notable media websites like Ad Week, Ad Age, and Content Marketing Association among others. However, we were unable to find any award won by BFG Communications. Lastly, we leveraged the company’s social media platform like Twitter, Linkedin, and Facebook with the hope of finding the company’s award. Unfortunately, we could not find any award that the company has received. However, on the company’s Twitter page, there is an announcement on the new hires and general information on the advertisement industry. Hence, we entered N/A where information was not available.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

BBR Creative received several awards in 2017 and 2018. For instance, in 2017, the company received Gold in several categories in the 2017 Advertising Awards while in 2018 Mr. Tim Landry received AAF's Copywriter of the Year Award.
According to Crunchbase, BFG Communications, Big Spaceship, and Bernstein-Rein Advertising annual revenue are $79.7 million, $4.2million and $418.7 million respectively. Balcom Agency has several clients including Aspens Senior Living, Ball Park Buns and Rolls, Ben Hogan Foundation, and Bennet Benner Partners. More details are in the attached spreadsheet.

Additional details for the new media advertising agencies can be found in the attached spreadsheet, tab: Prospecting List, rows 13 to 17, columns K to P.

Methodology

Although we managed to find the majority of requested information for the assigned media advertising agencies, we failed to find the information regarding awards won for Boathouse, Brafton and BrandStar. In order to establish whether these agencies have received any awards from 2017 onward, we first searched extensively through their websites. Our search included a deep dive into the press release sections. Among the press releases we did manage to find some useful information (e.g. the relocation of some agencies, openings of new offices, etc.), but there was no mention about the awards received.

We then scoured through their social media pages hoping to find mentions of awards or other notable recognition. The social media platforms that we've searched through included LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. LinkedIn provided some very useful general information about the agencies, which helped us supplement other findings. However, we were still unable to find what (if any) awards these three agencies have won.

Finally, we checked the websites of the most notable award-giving organizations, including the Content Marketing Association and the Content Marketing Institute. We have hoped to find the three agencies among the laureates. However, we couldn't find the missing information, which led us to conclude that these agencies still haven't won any note-worthy awards.

Research identified contacts at 360i, Allen & Gerritsen, Anthology Marketing Group, Apollo Interactive, and Austin & Williams at the level of Associate, Director, and VP. The requested information has been entered into the atatched spreadsheet.

methodology

We began our research by looking at each company's website for the senior level staff indicated. For Anthology Marketing Group, Apollo Interactive, and Austin & Williams we were able to find the required contacts using this method, this also provided the email addresses for the majority of the contacts at Apollo Interactive. Apollo Interactive was the only company that offered contact information for its team. To find the contacts at 360i and Allen & Gerritsen, we searched LinkedIn for contacts that matched the required level of employment. While we were able to find the rest of the contacts this way, we were unable to find direct phone numbers for the majority of the contacts.

Where possible, we tried to find the contact's email address on the company's website or through media mentions. However, we were unable to locate all the email addresses needed using this method. To find the email addresses for the contacts below, we used Hunter.io;

Contact information has been provided for staff at the associate to VP levels for Balcom Agency, BBR Creative, Bernstein-Rein Advertising, BFG Communications and Big Spaceship. This information provided includes their first and last name, job title, direct phone number and email, and their LinkedIn profile address. The attached spreadsheet contains our findings which have been outlined in rows 8-12 of columns Q-AZ.

METHODOLOGY

We were unable to find the email addresses and contact numbers for some professionals mentioned in our research. To find this information, we used three strategies. First, we searched for information on databases such as Hunter, Voila Norbert, and Rocket Reach. On Hunter, we found, the email addresses of several employees of the companies being researched. However, the list provided by Hunter is limited and does not always include the email address of the professionals being researched. Additionally, on the said website, some information is locked behind paywalls. Voila, and Norbert did provide us some email addresses we needed; however, not all were available from that source. On Rocket Reach, we found email addresses and contact numbers for most of the people being researched. We likely could have gained more data from the Rocket Reach, but the information was locked behind paywalls.

Second, we searched for email addresses and phone numbers on the respective company websites, more specifically, the Balcom Agency, BBR Creative, Bernstein-Rein Advertising, BFG Communications, Big Spaceship. However, in the case of Balcom Agency, we did not find email addresses or contact numbers for Jenna Oliver and the contact number for Zach Stryker. Other contact information, such as LinkedIn profiles, was provided. In the case of BBR Creative, the email addresses and social media pages of their employees, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, were provided. However, telephone numbers were not. Bernstein-Rein Advertising failed to provide any contact information for their employees. Instead, their websites have contact information for their company as a whole. BFG Communications provided limited information about their team members. Only their names and titles were provided. Big Spaceship did not provide any information about their team members. Instead, they provided information on how to contact the company.

Third, we searched for email addresses and contact numbers from business directories such as the White Pages. The White Pages did provide us with contact information for Balcom Agency, but not for their employees. Contact information for BBR Creative’s team members was not provided. On the same website, only the contact information for Bernstein-Rein Advertising was provided. The website failed to provide the contact numbers of their team members. We also searched for this information for the employees of BFG Communications, but retrieved no data. We were not provided with the contact information of the Big Spaceship employees mentioned on the spreadsheet. We believe that this information is not readily available possibly because the employees of these companies do not have an extension number. Despite our efforts, we were unable to find the data we needed.
