Acquisition Targets - Online Smartphone Retail Sales

While there is no pre-existing information to fully answer your question, we've used the available data to pull together key findings: online smartphone retailers that meet your criteria include Cell2Get, Electronics Force, and Fusion Electronix, which could all be potential acquisition targets. You'll find a deep dive of my research and methodology below.

methodology

Despite an exhaustive search through high-quality sources, I could only find three companies that match your exact criteria. The majority of online smartphone retailers violate this set of criteria in some way. First, I had to exclude all wireless service carriers themselves, since they would not provide activation for all four major carriers, only for their own network. Second, I had to exclude the major corporate retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Third, I had to exclude all major phone manufacturers, such as Samsung, Apple and Sony, as they all have brick-and-mortar as well as online retail outlets. It goes without saying that these three channels (carriers, manufacturers, and large corporate retailers) account for a massive share of the smartphone market.

Excluding those companies, I was still able to find many retailers who sell smartphones online. However, they each failed to meet the criteria because: 1) they do not focus primarily on smartphones, rather than wider consumer electronics, such as this example; 2) they are not able to activate plans on all four major carriers, such as this example; many only sell unlocked, inactivated phones, or they are an authorized retailer for a specific carrier, such as this example; 3) they focus primarily on sales of used devices, such as this example; or 4) they are not based in the U.S., such as this example.

I could only find three retailers that are not disqualified based on one of the above reasons, which I'll list below.

findings

1. Cell2Get:
Founded in 2004, Cell2Get claims to be one of the country's largest suppliers of contract-free and unlocked mobile phones and accessories. The retailer has an estimated 290,000 monthly visitors, and estimated revenues between $2.5 million and $5 million.

A retail supplier of unlocked, no-contract mobile phones. This website has an estimated 227,000 monthly visitors, but I couldn't find a revenue estimate for the company, despite extensive searching. The information seems to not be publicly available.

Founded in 2009, this company started out selling electronics on Amazon and eBay, but recently launched its own eCommerce retail store, selling primarily smartphones, tablets and accessories. The website has 100,000 monthly visitors and estimated revenues between $1 million and $10 million.

conclusion

To wrap up, Cell2Get, Electronics Force, and Fusion Electronix are all potential acquisition targets that meet your criteria. However, I could not find any other companies that fit these criteria, despite extensive searching.
