6/11: Brand Car Insurance & Warranty Information (Subaru – for 10 Asian countries)

Subaru offers a new-car warranty in nine of the 10 Asian countries, but only offers insurance in China and Thailand. Extended new-car warranties are available in China, Taiwan, and possibly Korea. Subaru does not offer a used-car warranty in any of the 10 countries, but one can be purchased from a third party in Malaysia. In Taiwan, the extended warranty can be transferred to new owners, and this may be the case in China and Korea as well, but there was nothing on their websites that specifically mentioned this feature. Subaru does not currently operate in India. The information for each country has been compiled on the attached spreadsheet.

Methodology

Most of the requested information was found on each country's Subaru website; however, warranty information was not always readily apparent. I often had to look for clues that one is offered by finding a warranty option in the service request area or on a dealership website. The links to these sites are included in the sources
cells on the spreadsheet.

Eight of the countries' Subaru operations are handled by MotorImage, which is a part of Tan Chong Motor Holdings. Extended warranties and insurance may be available through Tan Chong, but that was not evident on any of the Subaru pages. India does not have a Subaru website at all because it does not currently sell new vehicles in that country. China's Subaru website is not affiliated with MotorImage and provides significantly more information on warranties and insurance.

Please note that the Korean website is mostly in Korean and I was unable to translate the information because Chrome does not translate language on a PDF or on a Flash presentation. I was also unable to copy and paste the information on the Flash presentation to Google Translate, so I had to infer that one of the pages appears to be a warranty table of what is covered and for how long; however, I cannot say for certain that Subaru offers warranties and extended warranties on new cars in Korea.

Conclusion

Of the 10 countries researched, China offers the most options in terms of Subaru warranties and insurance. The remaining countries do not appear to be as forthcoming with their warranty and insurance information, but I was able to verify that Subaru Taiwan offers new-car warranties and extended warranties.
