Research Strategy

The research team was able to find information regarding Dr. Duke's educational, professional and work experience, accomplishments, and his role at 3D Institute. However, we could not pinpoint where and when he exactly held the positions that helped him add to his professional and work experience. The only information we found on his professional and work experience was from a copy of his CV that we found during our extensive search. We were also unable to find information on his personal details such as hobbies and interests as well as links to both his personal and professional social media profiles.

The research team started off its search by finding the information regarding Dr. Duke's biography on 3D Institute's website to see if there was any information regarding his biography. The company's website had a team section of several staffs and from this section, we were able to find primary information about Dr. Duke that helped us compile some of the key findings. Unfortunately, other than the mention of his marriage and children there was no other information available regarding his personal details.

Next, we looked for his LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter profiles as well as press releases and articles in sources such as fsrmagazines, PR Newswire, and ABNews to see if there is any information available on Dr. Duke. We were only able to find one interview from Crossmap but unfortunately, the interview revolved around the 3D coaching concept and had no mention of his personal interests and hobbies.

Seeing that there was limited available information on Dr. Duke's personal details, we opted to broaden the scope of our research beyond the standard two-year timeline. With this approach, we hoped to find less recent but useful information about any past interview or personal and professional information on Dr. Duke that would help us determine his hobbies and interests. Nevertheless, after a detailed search, we were not able to find any useful information on Dr. Duke.

Company Overview

  • In 2014, the 3D Institute began as a resource to help sports administrators meet the growing professional development needs of the international coaching community. Since then, the company has conducted over 450 workshops in 25 countries.

Company Leadership

  • The 3D Institute's leadership team includes Dr. Jeff Duke ED.D. (Founder and National Presenter), Wes Simmons (President/CEO and National Presenter), Mike Millay (COO and Strategic Partnerships), Mark Hull (International Director of Professional Development), Mitch Hull (National Director of Professional Development), Kevin Armstrong (Regional Director of Professional Development), George Crace (Regional Director of Professional Development), Joe Johnson (Regional Director of Professional Development), Marc Matthie (Regional Director of Professional Development), Dwight Nelson (Regional Director of Professional Development), Ray Reasland (Regional Director of Professional Development), and Joe Thomson (Regional Director of Professional Development).

Research Strategy

We began our investigation with an inquiry into the company's website. While we were able to locate some information, we were unable to locate a majority of the requested information (i.e., financial data, the current agency of record, and advertising examples). To locate this missing information, we expanded our search to financial and marketing databases (e.g., Owler, Crunchbase, and Zoominfo for the former; BigSpy, AdSector, SocialAdScout, and SocialPeta for the latter). However, we were unable to locate any information on the company's financial performance or marketing activity from these sources.

Our next step was to source interviews from the company's leadership team using industry and traditional media sources (e.g., Mentocoach, Forbes, CNN, and the NKYFCA). While these sources mention the company, they have no interviews with the leadership team. Our final step was to inquire into the company's social media activity. We found that the company's social media accounts have no information concerning financial performance or marketing activity.

The company's lack of public financial data is not unusual since it is a private entity. Additionally, due to its relative size and age, it is entirely possible that the 3D Institute's marketing is on a similarly sized (and harder to detect) scale.
