How many 26 year old white males are their in the USA? Of that #, how many are outdoor types (might own guns, pickup trucks, unshaven, wear hats backwards)? Of that #, what do they do the most on their mobile device? Texting/chatting or social media or YouTube or Netflix or news or shopping or ???

In short, there are 1,346,878 white males of 26-year-old in the US. Of these, anywhere between 215,500 and 417,532 own guns. 767,720 of the white men of 26 years’ age participate in outdoor sports. 95% of the white men own a smart phone and most of the activity is Facebook followed by Facebook Messenger and YouTube. eSports is another popular category among the men. 30% of the media consumption by the millennial men is on user-generated content -- social media posts, photos, blogs, email, texts and talking to others about media. I have provided a deep dive of my findings below.

FINDINGS

The US Census Bureau estimates there were 2,413,760 men of 26 years of age in 2016. Looking at the diversity statistics for the millennial generation, 55.8% of the 18-34-year-olds in the US are white. Therefore, we estimate that there are 55.8% * 2,413,760 = 1,346,878 white males of 26-year-old in US.
Looking at gun ownership, 31% of the white population in America own a gun while 37% of males own a gun. However, overall gun ownership rates among millennials are 16% vs 24% overall because the older generation owns guns at a higher rate. Therefore, we can estimate a range using 16% as the lower limit and 31% as the upper limit for gun ownership among 26-year-old white men.
Lower estimate: 16% * 1,346,878 = 215,500
Upper estimate: 31% * 1,346,878 = 417,532
For participation in outdoor sports, 57% of millennials actively engage however, there is not information on the breakdown of statistics according to gender. Therefore, we estimate that 57% * 1,346,878 = 767,720.

Lastly, looking for information on the phone habits of the 26-year-old white men, we were only able to find some broad statistics. 95% of the 25-34-year-olds own a smart phone. Most of the activity for this age group is Facebook (74%), Facebook Messenger (68%) and YouTube (58%). Pew estimates men within the age group 18-29 spend 75% of the time on Facebook. While the gender mix for phone activity is about equal, men dominate many categories such as binge-watching on YouTube. 37% of people aged 18-34 binge-watch daily on YouTube. eSports is another popular category for the millennial men. The Nielsen’s N-score shows that male Millennials have a higher opinion of trending social media stars than they do for sports stars, pop stars, actors, and actresses. In terms of media consumption, individuals between 18 and 36 years of age spend over 17.8 hours per day with different types of media — social media being the top priority. User-generated content — social media posts, photos, blogs, email, texts and talking to others about media — occupies 5.4 hours of the day on average. That is 30% of the total daily media consumption. The only rival to this is traditional media — print, radio, and TV — accounting for 33% of millennials’ media consumption. Additional information we found on shopping was that millennials and Gen Xers spend 6 hours per week shopping online — men spending 5 hours per week which might be a useful information though it is small compared to time spent on social media.

Of these, anywhere between 215,500 and 417,532 own guns. 767,720 of the white men of 26 years’ age participate in outdoor sports. 95% of the white men own a smart phone and most of the activity is Facebook followed by Facebook Messenger and YouTube. eSports is another popular category among the men. 30% of the media consumption by the millennial men is on user-generated content -- social media posts, photos, blogs, email, texts and talking to others about media.
