Hi! Thanks for your question about startups building credit and debit card gateways to compete with Stripe and Braintree. I found 10 companies that should fit the bill, which I've added to this spreadsheet. Read on for a few additional notes!
OVERVIEW
I searched Crunchbase for companies whose profiles mentioned APIs, gateways, or platforms to help businesses accept online payments with credit or debit cards. I tried to list only recently-founded companies, and I omitted companies that had over $3M in funding -- one company I did include has exactly $3M. Most of these startups have yet to be funded or haven't disclosed their funding; it's possible that these have more than $3M in funding, but there's no way to know for sure. Also, not all companies mentioned an API specifically, but they all should provide a gateway or platform of some sort for businesses to accept credit cards.
