Who are the 10 luxury skincare brands with the highest online sales in the US? (Name & Turnover)
Hello! Thanks for your question about the top selling online luxury skincare products in the US. The short version is that after searching extensively through industry reports, corporate filings, and trusted media articles I’ve determined that the information you requested is not publicly available because the market does not fragment out skincare only, much less e-commerce sales only due to a highly fragmented market. However, I was able to learn U.S. beauty care sales online comprise 7.7% of all beauty e-commerce sales. Below you will find a deep dive of my research and methodology.
METHODOLOGY
I began by looking for articles from trusted media sites or reports detailing the state of beauty, luxury, and/or e-commerce statistics. I found several articles with advice from experts and professionals detailing the state of the industry for any highlights. Unable to come up with any sales figures distinctly linked to e-commerce beauty sales in the US, I tried to look for broader information. Next, I looked for similar articles that addressed top skincare brands. I was able to articles related to beauty and luxury brands, but no specific definition or list that were tied to only the U.S. I combed through each article and forum for information that included any peripheral or broad information on the subject.
HELPFUL FINDINGS
According to one article, the top US brands include Olay, along with"Clinique, Murad, Patricia Wexler, Elizabeth Arden and SkinCeuticals."
A list of top global beauty brands that I cross referenced with being available for online sale in the U.S. and sells at luxury prices. These companies include Olay, Revlon, L'Oreal, Nivea, Lancome, Estee Launder, Biore. There is potential for these brands have high sale numbers online, but there are no definitive information on this.
TOP ONLINE BEAUTY BRANDS
The research and marketing industry itself has identified issues with tracking e-commerce stats. "Pinning down the biggest online beauty retailers is problematic, given the fragmented global landscape and limited disclosure among both specialist stores that sell online and major pure plays that sell a range of goods beyond beauty products." For the year 2015, the biggest "store-based beauty specialist retailers were, in descending order, Sephora, Ulta and Bath & Body Works... In the US, the top three were the same companies in a different order: Ulta, Sephora and Bath & Body Works."
"Among major economies, China is by far the leader in terms of e-commerce’s share of beauty sales." In 2015, 7.7% of the e-commerce beauty sales occurred in the US. Unfortunately, the free report didn't outline or name any brands distinctly. Further searches did not outline top luxury brands for the U.S. as specifically skincare related, nor as exclusive U.S. sale figures.
LUXURY BRANDS
While the market has seen sluggish rises, online luxury shopping has seen some large growth. "At current prices and current exchange rates, the total luxury market grew by 13% in 2015, while online luxury sales surged by 40%."
POSSIBLE CONTINUED RESEARCH
In understanding what types of information are and are not publicly available on this topic, I’ve suggested a few other routes you may be interested in researching:
What are trends and examples of successful digital advertising campaigns that are coming from luxury beauty brands? Please focus on skincare products if possible.
Who is the largest demographic purchaser of luxury brand beauty products in the U.S.? Please focus on skincare products if possible.
CONCLUSION
The beauty market is not studied well enough or segmented to understand specifically skin-care, nor U.S. based e-commerce sales exclusively due to a lack of public information. We hope the above has given you some steps and insight in another direction.
